CMT department spotlight: the Sound Team! Our sound department for this show is headed by Gavin Baker (designer and engineer) and assisted by Delaney Schulten.

Below are some bits about the department from Gavin:

“The sound department creates the auditory landscape for the show through design and engineering. Sounds are chosen from both explicitly mentioned and implied sounds from the script. The sounds are then created and edited to fit the contexts of the scene. Sound effects can be short effects like a whistle being blown to a long ambiance like a flowing river. Sound engineering is the act of managing the audio equipment, such as speakers and mics. This involves moving overhead speakers, testing mics, using the sound board, and fixing any technical issues.

The biggest challenges are leveling the sounds to the appropriate volume and fixing general sound issues. To level sounds, it takes a lot of trial and error and communication with the director. For fixing sound issues, lots of technical knowledge on the sound system is needed to properly diagnose the issue. This may take a lot of time too.

My favorite part of doing sound is playing random sounds at random times, usually way too loud.”

If you’re interested in learning more about the sound department, drop by some of their work parties! Times are listed in the calendar on our website in our bio. Stay tuned for information on our other departments & for ticket sales!

You are invited!
Please join us alongside Out of Hand Theater in partnership with the ACLU of Georgia for Paris Crayton Ill’s one-act play, Class Dismissed, on April 9, 2024, at 8 pm.
When a dedicated teacher is reprimanded for an intentionally inclusive choice, we are swept up in a brewing storm of controversy over ‘divisiveness’ and identity erasure. Class Dismissed delves into the personal and societal consequences of Georgia’s divisive concepts law, which prohibits teachers from addressing LGBTQ+ issues or systemic racism. Tickets at dramatech.org.
