Happy International Day of Charity! We are happy to be living out our mission of “spreading Christ’s love through quality healthcare to those in need” day in and day out. This journey would not be possible without the help of everyone who has crossed paths with our clinic. We are so thankful to be surrounded by a lot of great nonprofits including, Open Hand, which provides nutrition-based classes for our patients seeking knowledge and new recipes. Welcome to the neighborhood , we’re happy to have you here!

We are extremely grateful for as they continue to support our neighbors experiencing homelessness. This past weekend they celebrated Mission Sunday where families from across the community came together to assemble hygiene kits for our Friday Clinic. These kits are always greatly appreciated by our patients.

Shay Shoats, our Medical Billing Specialist, is absolutely critical to daily functions at the Center as she helps bring in a portion of the income to sustain our operations. Get to know Shay a bit better and celebrate her with us today! How else will you celebrate your favorite nonprofit today?

Today we highlight the individuals who make day-to-day functions at Good Sam possible. Those who bring joy and goodness to the communities we serve through quality healthcare from the very moment that they step foot in Good Sam and until the last. Today is and in honor of that we celebrated with a little morning pick-me-up.

How much do you think about the food that ends up on your table... Perhaps frequently about its nutritional value or if the green veggie will discourage the youngest members of the family from eating, maybe less so about how it got to you. To kick off National Health Center Week, we highlight “Agricultural Worker Health Day” and challenge you to think about the people who help put food on your table. If you’d like to honor those people, read more from FoodTank, The National Association of Community Health Centers, or articles from Emory’s Farmworker Project and help bring awareness to the health needs of this population.

Bee on the lookout for these sweet jars to hit The Market shelves in the coming weeks. Our farm team did an incredible job keeping the bees happy and as a result we had a harvest of over 100 jars.

🐝Fun Fact: Did you know that it takes 12 bees to make one teaspoon of honey? That’s right! 12 bees worked their entire lives(6 weeks) to make just one teaspoon of honey.🐝

Earlier this week, a small group of volunteers joined our farm team as they tackled overgrown strawberry plants and prepared the space for a cover crop to protect and enrich the soil. This small but mighty group left the farm looking completely transformed, and we are all so thankful for their hard work! Until next time, ! ☺️👋🏽

As Men’s Health Month wraps up, we wanted to remind everyone that there are many reasons why men often don’t seek medical care. Did you know that health care access, social and community context, economic stability, education access and quality, and built environment are influences that shape our health? Scroll through to seek exactly why men of color often don’t seek medical care.

As easy as it is to tell your loved one, “Go to the doctor and get that checked out”, we have to remember that there are many reasons why they may avoid the doctors office.

If you believe in providing quality and affordable healthcare to those in need join us in our journey to be Here for Good.

About a week and a half ago, Dr. Tremmel presented the Good Sam staff with the opportunity to learn more about the Tonga people of Zimbabwe. In just 60 short minutes, he managed to captivate everyone in the room, leaving us with an itch to learn more about this language that is at risk of disappearing. Check out this week’s post to learn more about him and this community battling to keep their culture alive.

This year for Men’s Health Month, the theme is “Teach a man to fish (for health)”. This theme comes from the adage: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” We want to help teach men to prioritize their health at any age and reap the benefits for a lifetime.

It’s alarming to read that 40% of men will wait to seek care until they feel “seriously unwell” when the research shows preventative healthcare can help avoid the need for restorative care. Good Sam seeks to remove as many barriers as possible to seeking primary care and Full Circle of Health services for men of all ages.

Stay tuned this month as we highlight the need importance of men’s health. Let us know in the comments what you think keeps men from seeking healthcare services.

Mental health is one of our 5 subcategories of Full Circle Health here at Good Sam and for that reason we were elated to welcome Dr. Charlie A. Davidson to join our Good Sam family as our psychologist, bringing with him new skills and approaches to round out this circle of care. Check out this week’s blog post to learn more about Dr. Charlie!

As comes to a close, we wanted to take the time to share some staggering facts regarding mental health and shed light on such an important topic. We realize that awareness is more than a social media post, but it starts with having conversations and education. Remember that it is okay not to be okay. Together, we will be okay!💚

Beelieve it or not, today is World Bee Day! Today we focus on the health of bees and other vital pollinators who keep our planet healthy.

May 20th was specifically chosen as World Bee Day to honor the work of Anton Jansa, a pioneer of modern apiculture (beekeeping). At Good Sam we have a few active hives with hundreds of busy bees at work.
