It has been 121 days since we have closed our doors. We are excited to announce that starting tomorrow we will be transitioning to a limited to-go menu.

Tomorrow’s menu will be smoked brisket, heirloom tortillas , and salsa macha. Sides include tomato, cucumber, walnut xo sauce and eggplant oyster mushroom, black rice, mushroom miso.

Every Wednesday we send our employees home with a box of beautiful, organic produce from small, local farms thanks to the initiative by .lp
A broken supply chain between small restaurants and farmers prompted the creation of . Fresh produce is purchased from farmers weekly and packaged into a farm boxes for the many restaurant servers, cooks, and bartenders struggling through these hard times. It’s a remarkable program and we are so incredibly appreciative to be a part of it.
So grateful and honored that is going to be supporting our efforts with the soup kitchen. Next Friday and Saturday they will be releasing their new beer , which is a worldwide collaborative effort to support hospitality professionals hosted by .

In 2016, Staplehouse was named best new restaurant in America by . In 2020, starting today, we become a soup kitchen for our industry in this time of crisis. .
Staplehouse and Giving Kitchen have decided to combine our focus and convert Staplehouse into “The Giving Soup Kitchen” with the immediate goal of providing meals at no cost to food service employees directly affected by this crisis who cannot work. These meals will be prepared by our team in an effort to keep them employed while doing what we love so much. .
As our mission hasn’t changed, our support needs have. Where we no longer need diners, we need donors. We ask our friends, supporters, and those who can help to donate to our Venmo account (). These funds will go directly to our employees, so we can keep the lights on as we help those in need of a warm meal and the comfort of community. .
Starting today, March 21st, we will be offering 50 takeaway meals per day for pickup only.
It is extremely important to us to maintain our safety and limit grouping. To do so, we insist you contact us to schedule your takeaway box and pick up time. Our pick up window is from 1:00-4:00pm. To schedule a pickup time, email us at [email protected]. .
In order to reduce ingredient costs, we are asking our fellow restaurants who have also made the tough decision to close your doors to please donate any excess inventory. Kara and I have made the incredibly hard decision to temporarily close Staplehouse due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Our love and passion is providing food, drink, hospitality and a safe place to connect. Closing the restaurant is the ethical and responsible thing to do at this time. Our staff is the beating heart and the soul of the restaurant. Their health and safety are of the upmost importance to us.
We are exploring potential options for takeout service and will communicate those developments as they become available.
To our guests that have a reservation in the next 2 weeks: We would kindly ask to reschedule your reservation to a future date. If you are in a position to do so, please consider donating your reservations funds to assist our team through these difficult times. If your preference is to be refunded we are happy to do so. I've been able to reach layers inside of me that I didn't know I could, and connect with a level of honesty and truth that have truly shown me why I was supposed to be here. It's all because of you! It's relationships. It's heart, soul and love. My only hope for you is that you walk away from today knowing that you made all the difference in my life being a complete one. I wouldn't have changed a thing, because it takes everything to complete the work.
It's far too easy, and we have the opportunity everyday to take a closer look at our own lives. Take time to appreciate the things that may have gone out of focus. For me at least, in the end, it was all those little things, the grey dusty corners that held the truths together.

“I’ve moved… 85 steps away.
I am humbled by the opportunity to celebrate today. Today marks day 12 of joining Giving Kitchen's staff full-time.
This transition has been one in progress for some time. I am so often reminded of my late husband Ryan Hidinger's words back in early 2013 when the conceptualization of Giving Kitchen was just budding, “In order to help more, it means we need to start with less.” It’s this crawl-before-you-walk mentality, allowing a strong foundation to be built, that is the success of Giving Kitchen today. And I value that perspective highly in my personal and professional life, as well.
This news is most certainly very personal to me, but I also like to think of it as community news... a move I have made within the Staplehouse, Giving Kitchen and food service community. In order to help Giving Kitchen expand its impact in providing assistance to the food service community, I will serve as GK's Community Engagement Director.
This means, I am no longer one of the smiling faces welcoming guests at Staplehouse and handling the business management of the restaurant behind the scenes daily. Staplehouse remains in the wonderful, talented, dedicated, familial, and familiar hands of Chef Ryan Smith, Kara Hidinger, and the rest of the team!
Being a founder of Staplehouse will always be part of my heart and OUR story, and this is a move I knew deep down would be made at some point. The time is now.
I look forward to focusing my energy on deepening relationships, fundraising, our expansion efforts and further fulfilling my spokesperson role; something I have so longed to do in a more dedicated capacity.
