In the aftermath of spiritually transformative experiences (STEs), experiencers (STErs) have sometimes reported prolonged challenging integration processes.

Spiritual change is a movement, be it subtle or extreme, from one cultural/psychological world to another.

Making a choice requires either relying on current preferences that may be incompatible after a transformative experience, or it requires relying on possibly biased or unreliable input from others about their transformative experiences.

Our mission is to address the integration needs and further the well-being of those who have had near-death or similar spiritually transformative experiences through research, education, and support.

06/02/2021

Mystical experiences at end-of-life — such as deathbed visions, out-of-body journeys and near-death experiences — have been recorded since the beginning of human history.

• Current research
• How to support patients having these experiences

Have you had an aesthetic/spiritual experience and are you in recovery?
It is a pleasure to inform you about a call for participants in a study exploring aesthetic experiences and creativity reported by persons in substance addiction recovery coming out of the University of West Georgia;
Participatory Aesthetics: A Phenomenological Study of Aesthetic Experiences of Persons in Substance Abuse Recovery
Participatory aesthetics is understood as an active involvement in a creative endeavor. Similar to Spiritually Transformative Experiences, (STEs), an aesthetic experience can be explained as a transformative experience; awakening self to being interconnected with creation and beauty.
For this study, 25 participants will be asked to describe their transformative experiences and creative activities in relation with their recovery. Interested participants need to be older than 17 years and free from alcohol and drug abuse for more than 3 years. Some interviews can take place in the state of Georgia, in-person with adherence to Covid19 safety protocol. However, online meeting interviews are possible and encouraged. Only audio will be recorded. All participant identity is protected by consent agreement. More information is on the flyer.
*This study research has been approved by the University of West Georgia Institutional Review Board, application # UWG2021_0157
