Jazzy Hearts Foundation
Founded in September 2023 in memory of Jazlene “Jazzy” Carter 🫀Organ donation is not a cure…yet 🙏🏼
Excited (and maybe a little nervous 😬) to be this week’s Speaker Spotlight at Cartersville Business Club. I would love to have all of my entrepreneur friends join me this Wednesday as I share a little bit about Jazzy’s heart transplant journey and why we started Jazzy Hearts Foundation 💙💚 I really enjoy going to these CBC meetings and I know you will too! Membership is not required to attend and it’s a great opportunity to network 🫱🏼🫲🏽

We couldn’t let the week go by without shining a light on National Pediatric Transplant Week. It’s a week dedicated to bringing awareness to the thousands of children within the transplant community. Below you’ll find our beloved Jazzy. One photo was taken the night before her heart transplant and the other from the night afterwards. Can you notice the difference in the color of her feet? It’s amazing how the heart works to supply blood and oxygen throughout the body.
“A transplant is the ultimate legacy a person can leave and the greatest gift of community service we can give.” - Orla Tinsley
We are forever grateful for the gift of life donated to Jazzy. It gave us an extra 17 months with her and changed our lives forever.
Granted, there are many organ recipients that live much longer than she did but Jazzy is our reminder that a transplant is not a cure; at least not yet. 🙏🏼
Here are some facts about pediatric transplants:
💚In 2023, more than 1,900 children received lifesaving transplants, matched from nearly 900 pediatric organ donors.
💙Currently, there are more than 2,100 children on the national transplant waiting list.
💚More than 500 children waiting for a donor organ are between 1 and 5 years old.
Save the date: Sunday, October 13th. The Angels of Life Fundraiser never disappoints! 💙💚
You will always find our team decked out for National Donate Life Blue & Green Day! Our commitment to the organ transplant community runs deep as our Managing Partner, Lester, is a two-time heart transplant recipient! We dedicate a large part of our community efforts to support organ donation. Join us Sunday October 13th (Lester’s birthday) for our 14th Annual “Angels of Life” Hair & Fashion Show which supports the Georgia Transplant Foundation. We will be walking into the event this year with over ONE MILLION DOLLARS in donations! Big thanks to everyone who supports us each year! 💚💙

A little about our friends at Jazzy Hearts ❤️💙
After the death of our youngest, our family decided to create a nonprofit organization in her memory. Jazzy Hearts Foundation was created to continue Jazzy's legacy of hope. In her short 2 years of life here on Earth, she tested the very boundaries of medical science and her unwavering spirit shone brightly as a light guiding others toward their faith. Those are the things we intend to continue through Jazzy Hearts Foundation. We are actively working on bringing awareness to congenital heart disease and organ donation. This is a crucial step in that people need to be aware of the need for more research before they can begin to act. Our overall vision is to fund innovative research to improve the overall well being of heart transplant recipients and ultimately assist in making transplants a cure. Jazzy is a reminder to the public that organ transplants are not a cure and provides hope for the transplant community through her medical experiences that proved innovative during her CHD journey leading to her heart transplant. Being able to share our story of how God was working throughout her life and even after is a beautiful bonus that we feel honored to experience.
Head on over to their page and give them a like and follow! They are doing big things in Jazzy’s Honor! We are happy to be apart of their community! 💙❤️
On this day 2 years ago we brought our Jazzy girl home after our longest hospital stay that was filled with many ups and downs. She went from back and forth trips to the hospital to a long term stay after implanting an artificial heart to keep her alive while waiting for a donated heart and then going home shortly after. Ten days…just 10 days after her transplant her body was finally well enough to go home safely. I remember her staring out the window enjoying the scenery the whole ride home as if she too understood that she was given a second chance at life. I remember her sleeping so peacefully in the quiet of her own home with only one tube coming out of her body. I remember the feeling of overwhelming gratitude that our family was complete and made new.
Organ donation is the ultimate, selfless gift that one person can physically give to another human being. What makes a heart donation even more special is that it can only be given in the tragic event of someone losing their life. To know that even in the midst of one family’s tragedy they chose to give life to someone else puts the world into a different perspective and gives a legacy of hope for both donor and recipient families.
Awareness to congenital heart disease and organ donation is a major part of what we do with our nonprofit. People have to be aware before they can begin to act.
It was suggested to us that we put out there for a chance to be a nominee in the Black Excellence Awards!
Just to be nominated would give recognition to our cause and reach more people that we could potentially educate and that doesn’t cost us or you a thing! 💙💚

Huge thanks to Troy Hall & Isaac with Isaac Hall Group for donating 30 copies of the Happy To Be Me book series! We hope these books will help to uplift some of the patients at Egleston. Thank you both for thinking of them!♥️📚💚💙
Shout out to Darnell from Jackson Park Creations for donating some books to our recent book drive! We appreciate you thinking of the Heart Center at Egleston ♥️💚📚💙
🔊Sound on for this one as Jazzy repeatedly says thank you for helping her find her favorite book 🥰 Pete the Cat: The Wheels on the Bus 🚌
This was her first trip to the public library. I miss that little weeble wobble walk of hers 🥺 She was still new to walking and had not yet had her feet & leg braces. Kids that go through transplant tend to have developmental delays and require extra support and therapy. At the time of this video she was also going to feeding therapy but had pulled her NG tube out in the parking lot before going inside the library 😂 A very normal, jazzy thing to do.
Help us get new books to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Cardiology-Egleston! Share some of your kids favorite books in the comments! This will help give us some ideas so we can get a good variety of books for the kids in the hospital. 🙂📚
And if you’re able, we’d love to have you join us! Details are in the pictures in the post. Snacks will be available too! 😋
Life has always been hard but it’s even harder without our Jazzy girl and it’s only getting harder.
You will forever be in our hearts and we thank Yahweh for the time we had with you and for being our anchor to Him. Until we meet again punkin head…😘
💙💚
We hope you can join and 306 Powerhouse next Saturday (the 23rd) for a fun filled, heart pumping masterclass! 💪🏼💦 We’ll be accepting new books as entry to the class in celebration of and in memory of our Jazzy angel who LOVED books! 📚♥️ All books will be donated to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Cardiology at Egleston.
Comment here if you have any questions and as always 💚💙
Sharing another video of Jazzy with her favorite book because it’s just too cute not to 📚🥰 This one features one of her many favorite nurses from Egleston. She took time out of her day that evening just to come visit and read with Jazzy. Cardiac nurses do more than care for their patients. They establish friendships that stay with them and the patient for their entire lives. We are forever grateful for Danielle and many others that cared for Jazzy for the love they shared ♥️
is an important opportunity to encourage reading every day and to foster a love of books for children across the country.
The answer to Monday’s question! Her favorite book was Pete the Cat: The Wheels on the Bus 🚌
She had this book memorized! If you know the book, you’ll see that with each page she turns to she’s saying what part of the story it’s on. And if you listen closely at the end she’s asking me if I want to get another book. At first I thought she wanted me to read until I realized what she was asking for when she suggested another one of her favorites, Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes 🧁🥰 Mommy’s smart girl! I miss her so much.
For those that don’t know (because I sure didn’t) there’s not only a week to celebrate reading but a whole month! is celebrated not just to promote the love for reading but also to develop communication and learning. ♥️📚
This photo was taken during Read Across America Week in 2022. I love how CHOA finds any reason to host celebrations to make the days a little brighter. Jazzy loved books just as much as she did toys, maybe even a little more. She didn’t need a reason to grab a book but if you do, or someone you know does, tell them to read a book in memory of Jazzy 🥰
Comment below and guess which book or series was her favorite?? I’ll share the answer in another post on Wednesday.
The vision for is to fund research to increase the longevity of pediatric heart transplants while improving the overall wellbeing of those recipients and their families. When Jazzy developed cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV), it happened faster than anyone had ever seen. The coronary arteries are checked annually after a heart transplant because doing so is an invasive procedure. My hope is that one day heart transplant recipients can be checked for CAV and rejection in a less invasive way so that those things can be checked on a more frequent basis. This would help patients physically & mentally and hopefully lift some financial burden for some families.
Medical technology has come a long way but there is still much work to do. Advocating for improved post-transplant care means pushing for more innovation and access to effective options like donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) tests that minimize invasive procedures and enhance patient wellbeing.
Arizona opinion: Organ-transplant patients need innovations While recent national attention has focused on reforms to our country’s organ transplant system, we must pay just as much attention — if not more — to much-needed progress for
This is so true. I’ve been in the valley of the shadow of death with Jazzy a handful of times. I thought this last go around was going to be like the other times. It was the scariest yet the most beautiful one. I know some would think I’m crazy to say that but if you’ve ever experienced how to truly walk by faith and not by sight, then you know what I’m talking about. I’m always sad, but… I . FEAR . NOTHING. And I’m closer to God than I’ve ever been in my entire life. She was our angel here on earth and she will forever be our angel in Heaven. Without her I never stood a chance of going to be with our Lord and Savior. Now she’s my constant reminder. Because of her I will one day have eternal peace in The Kingdom.
- Mommy’s coming Jazzy, “Be patient “
To the mama who questions how she can survive another day.
To the mama who wonders when the storms will ease.
To the mama who is barely hanging by on.
You have survived every one of your hardest days.
Each day, you wake up and you do what you have to do to make it through.
One day you will look back and wonder how you did it.
But the answer is simple.
Love. Unconditional, fierce love for your warrior.

February is heart month, with CHD Awareness week being Feb 7th - Feb 14th. Help us spread awareness to these life altering health issues that affect thousands of kids and their families. Every 15 min, a child is born with some kind of congenital heart defect. The more people that know about CHD and the impact it has on the families involved, the more likely we can improve the livelihood of those affected.
