Helen Octavia Dickens was the first African-American women to be admitted to he American College of Surgeons. She spent her career focusing on women's health with a focus on young, low-income women of color. Helen was a professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where she founded the Teen Clinic at the University of Pennsylvania which aided young mothers.

Y’all may be tired of seeing me post about bias and the detrimental effects on patients of color, and quite frankly I’m tired of having to...

Why is it that so many black patients are scared of going to the hospital/doctor? Why is there so much mistrust among minorities in our healthcare systems?

💡 We frequently quote the historical data that supports this fear...

💡We don’t even need to go back in history, because the same nonsense is still happening today...
