Yesterday, we highlighted our 2023 accomplishments. Today, we highlight the leadership team that made them possible. These leaders set the vision for the year and developed a bold plan to bring it to life.

Whether elevating the OA brand, planning service projects, refining our selections process and expanding our outreach, planning an induction ceremony, reviewing our governance and financial procedures, executing on our alumni engagement strategy, or identifying sponsors, this team led with grace and excellence. Simply put, they demonstrated the leadership.

The love for OA extends beyond Atlanta. A few of our Trustees made the trip to Columbus to support alumnus Jason Esteves, his wife, and the opening of their business. We love to see our alumni being the change they want to see!

Happy Kwanzaa! Habari Gani? 🔴 ⚫️ 🟢

Kwanzaa is an African-American and Pan-African holiday that celebrates history, values, family, community, and culture. The ideas and concepts of Kwanzaa are expressed in the Swahili language, one of the most widely spoken languages in Africa.

The seven principles - “The Nguzo Saba" - which form its core were drawn from communitarian values found throughout the African continent. These principles are: Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility), Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics), Nia (Purpose), Kuumba (Creativity), and Imani (Faith). Kwanzaa gets its name from the Swahili phrase, “matunda ya kwanza” and is rooted in first fruit celebrations which are found in cultures throughout Africa both in ancient and modern times.

Congratulations to Sofia Aun (Class of 2022), Carl Hill (Class of 2021), Raj Shah (Class of 2018), and Otis Threatt (Class of 2006) for being a part of Leadership Georgia's Class of 2023 and graduating last month!

Leadership Georgia is one of the nation’s oldest and most successful leadership training programs for young business, civic, and community leaders that have the desire and potential to work together for a better Georgia.

Congratulations to OA President Maranie Brown (Class of 2021) for successfully completing the Atlanta Regional Commission's Culture & Community Design Program last week!

She was one of 27 arts, culture, and civic leaders selected to participate. The C&CD Program was created to advance arts and culture as an essential part of inclusive and equitable planning in communities across metro Atlanta and is part of the ARC’s Arts, Culture, and Placemaking Plan, which aims to integrate arts and culture into the agency’s planning work to help build a thriving and healthy region.

We had to be in the building for this year’s UNCF - Atlanta Mayor’s Masked Ball, and it didn’t disappoint!✨ 🎭 ✨

OA alumna Justine Norman Boyd (Class of 1999), Assistant Vice President of UNCF, and her team did an incredible job! The event raised over $4M to help students move to and through college. What an awesome way to celebrate the event’s 40th anniversary!

It’s official. We’ve made a new rule.✨✨
