Our country is undergoing pressure of many forms. Recent developments have catapulted racism and inequality into the forefront of American lives. Change seems to be around the corner, but more work needs to be done. We at the Atlanta Spine Center embrace diversity and the American value that we are all created equal. As many know, we are a small business built around multiculturalism as well as diversity with a passion to help people live better lives. We believe all of us need to do our part no matter what size our contribution may be. Listening, learning, giving our time and resources, and committing to change are all ways we intend to better the lives of our community we’ve served for the past 24 years.

Our first initiative at the Atlanta Spine Center is to make Juneteenth (June 19th ) a company holiday and our practice will be closed in observance of this day.

This is a brief explanation of the holiday:
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the civil war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation - which had become official January 1, 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation had little impact on the state of Texas due to the minimal number of Union troops to enforce the new Executive Order. However, with the surrender of General Lee in April of 1865, and the arrival of General Granger’s regiment, the forces were finally strong enough to overcome the resistance.

Please continue to influence the struggle for equality throughout the country and in your own lives. Atlanta’s history is rich with civil rights icons and important to the entire country’s diverse identity. The jewel of the south is well known as the birthplace of the civil rights movement. We are dedicated, as the Atlanta Spine Center, to the well-being of our community in all forms, including spiritual, mental, and emotional.
