✨WOMEN’S HISTORY IN THE MAKING✨

We are absolutely thrilled to participate in University of Memphis, School of Communication Sciences and Disorders’ Mentoring Program!🎉

Please join us in celebrating Erin Bowens, our 2024 mentee!💜

“My name is Erin Bowens, and I am a 2nd year Speech-Language Pathology student graduating from the University of Memphis this May. I am a native of Memphis, Tennessee, and I received my bachelor’s degree from University of Mississippi. My passions in research have involved adult neurogenic communication disorders and parent-led intervention via tele-practice for children with Autism. This field has shown me that everyone deserves the right to communicate, find their voice, learn, and foster relationships through something as simple as enjoying a meal. I hope to make a positive impact in the lives I’ll encounter in this profession!”

✨Congratulations, Erin, on your accomplishments thus far; we are delighted to be a part of your journey🙌🏽 Onward and upward!✨

The success of every woman should be an inspiration to another. We should raise each other up. Make sure you’re courageous, be strong, be extremely kind, and above all, be humble.—Serena Williams

Is the Atlanta accent vanishing? Not exactly. It is easy to spot, the old Atlanta accent. Bird becomes bud in a drawl as unhurried as Sunday brunch at the Colonnade. Because of several factors here—the Olympics, the tech boom, the rise of the entertainment industry—Atlanta’s population has exploded, bringing a heady mix of other languages...

The Franklin D. Last month, I had the esteemed pleasure of facilitating at the National Alliance of African American Athletes’ 31st Annual Conference in Washington D.C. Since 1992, the Alliance has spotlighted extraordinary academic and athletic achievement among African American male high-school students. Adaptive Accents is honored to be part of its mission ‘to uplift and mentor youth—focusing on African American males through programs that prepare students for college and leveraging athletes as catalysts to inspire leadership while recognizing and rewarding academic, athletic, and community excellence.’ Maintaining GPAs of 3.8 to 4.4, shattering national records and titles in track & field, serving the homeless and those with special needs, clinching state football titles, organizing free youth football camps, and earning athletic scholarships (Virginia Tech, University of Washington, Michigan State University, University of South Carolina, and Notre Dame) are just a few of the standards these exceptional young men have set for themselves.🔥 Congratulations to all of our Watkins Award winners—Tavorian Copeland, Diesel Gordon, Jordan Hall, Jeremiyah Love—and our 2023 Standard Bearer, Nyckoles Harbor!🎉 Special thank you to Executive Director, Everette Pearsall, Dexter R. Conner of Goldman Sachs, and the Alumni Executive Board for having me once again!🙏🏽 🦎

We’re closing out our chameleon series with one of the most versatile adaptations of the chameleon—the tail—highly regarded as the ‘fifth limb.’

Chameleons have prehensile tails, which means they are highly adept at maintaining balance, gripping tree branches, and holding their own weight in unpredictable situations, but also expressing feelings and exhibiting defense mechanisms, just to name a few capabilities. This secret weapon prevents the chameleon from falling, allows it to cross greater distances, and truly thrive in its environment.

We liken this adaptation to the ability to level up and rise to the occasion. Whether your aim is to boost confidence, gain comfort in crucial conversations, or enhance career mobility, at , we’ve got the tools you need to achieve your definition of communicative success.

Happy (Good) Friday!

We’re back with more information on our beloved chameleon. This week we are exploring the feet.

Chameleon feet are ‘zygodactyl-like’—similar to a parrot’s, but even more adept as they are arboreal creatures. These feet allow the chameleon to effortlessly grip and climb vertically, ascending to higher heights as it so chooses.

Needless to say, the chameleon is immensely difficult to knock off balance.

Our clients at are steady in ascension allowing them to fully flourish within their environment - just like the chameleon. 😉

🔥

Photos from Adaptive Accents's post 04/14/2023

This week we’re covering probably the most well-known adaptation of the chameleon—it’s ability to change color.

The notion that chameleons change color primarily to ‘blend in’ with their environment is largely a misconception. The simple fact that the chameleon CAN change color and pattern is astonishing in itself— talk about nonverbals (pun intended)😉.

However, chameleons actually change colors for a number of reasons: to regulate body temperature, to express mood and emotions, and also to communicate with other chameleons.

Have you ever considered what you’re communicating without words? We at do— words only account for 7% of communication…

Friday already!?

We’re back with another fun fact about the and its extraordinary adaptations.

The chameleon tongue has many impressive attributes, but the most note-worthy is that it has the highest and accuracy of all amniotes (reptiles, birds and mammals).

We liken this adaptation to our clients’ ability to powerfully connect to their listeners and bring them in. Once the chameleon locks on, they rarely miss🔥

Happy Friday everyone! We’re back with another fun fact about the !

One of the chameleon’s most intriguing attributes is it’s swiveling eye. Chameleons have both monocular and binocular vision allowing them to have a full 360 view - including seeing what’s directly behind them!

At we liken the awareness of the chameleon to that of our clients who are truly ready for any communication challenge that comes their way.

When it comes to thriving in its environments, few animals are better equipped than the chameleon with its literal head-to-toe arsenal of specialized adaptations.

Each week we’ll be covering the Chameleon and all its unique attributes - head to toe! Learn more about our process here at Adaptive Accents and how the Chameleon illustrates who we are at our core.
