BAS occupational ecosystems share many common denominator skill sets required to manage and maintain building heating, ventilation, air conditioning, cooling, refrigeration, lighting, water circulation, security, and alarms.

From traditional technical expertise to 21st-century advanced cloud computing skills, BAS professionals use valuable tools and services to create the Internet of Things (IoT) applications in managing controls and optimal maintenance of residential and commercial buildings.

On any given day, tens of thousands of Building Automation Systems (BAS) vacancies are posted on various commercial job search engines in the United States. A high number of vacancies in this fledgling field reflect both jobs-in-demand and unmet workforce needs of the building management/maintenance industry.

Tisa Smart-Washington took office as Rockdale County Tax Commissioner in 2017 after serving as Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner in Rockdale for 4 years. She holds the distinction of being the first African American appointed Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner and the first African American woman elected Tax Commissioner in Rockdale County. She was re-elected in 2020. Prior to joining the Tax Commissioner’s Office, Tisa served as Communication Writer in the Office of the CEO of DeKalb County and Editor of the Rockdale News.

ACP had the pleasure of getting to know Tisa as she excellent advice for young adults navigating through their educational and professional carers.

ACP has so much in store for 2022 with our A STEP in STEM project! ASIS is an exciting, immersive outreach experience for students, which features a STEM-themed performance, a mobile automation laboratory, live-streaming and podcasting, interactive STEM roundtables with industry professionals, and more!

ACP had the pleasure of getting to know GSU-PC Advisory Board Member, Victoria Pratt. Victoria Victoria has led fundraising teams at several leading nonprofits in metro Atlanta, including Camp Fire USA and The Carter Center. As a senior campaign manager for O’Neill and Associates, a fundraising consulting firm, she also led campaign feasibility studies and multimillion-dollar campaigns for organizations including Birmingham YMCA, Mount Vernon Presbyterian School, and Odyssey Family Counseling Center.

The Building Automation Systems industry still faces career challenges due to lack of training, fewer women and minorities in the workforce, and inadequate education curricula and programs.

ACP is working diligently to provide individuals and institutions with resources to combat these challenges and assist with the steady progression of the BAS industry.
