The Young Democrats of Georgia are heartbroken and outraged by this week’s tragedy at Apalachee High School. Our hearts are with the victims, their families, and the entire community as they navigate the aftermath of this senseless violence. Please join us in keeping all of those that were impacted in your prayers during this time.

This kind of violence is unacceptable. It is a stark reminder that we are failing our children, our schools, and our communities. We refuse to accept a world where such tragedies are becoming a regular part of our reality. It is a stark indictment of our current policies and the urgent need for change.

YDG envisions a future where gun violence is nothing more than a dark chapter in history—a fiction we can’t believe was ever a reality. We are committed to fighting for that future with unwavering determination. It’s time for our elected leaders to act decisively to address the root causes of gun violence. This includes enacting stronger gun control measures, expanding mental health support, and ensuring our schools are equipped to protect students and staff.

Words alone will not suffice. We need concrete actions and policies prioritizing our communities’ safety over political expediency. The time for change is now.

To the students, educators, and families affected by this tragedy: we stand with you. We pledge to continue advocating for a safer world, where our children can learn and grow free from the fear of violence.

Yesterday led by spoke out against the Superintendent not funding AP African American History in Georgia. Thank you to everyone for standing up and speaking out-but this fight isn’t over. Contact the superintendent and let him know these students deserve credit and these classes deserve funding. Stand up for Georgia students. Black history is American History, Black Culture is American Culture.

These amazing young people have put themselves forward to run for office and are fighting for the next generation of Georgians. is a educator and Atlanta Public School Board member, and one of our strongest student advocates. We appreciate Shivys dedication to Atlantas children and well funded education.

is a longtime Democratic organizer, former mayor of Clarkston, and Dekalb Duper District 6 Commissioner. He is a strong proponent of the Dekalb Green New Deal and a progressive champion in local government.

is a Doraville city councilwoman and the first transgender elected official in Georgia. She is a fierce advocate for Georgias LGBTQ+ community.

Senator Steve Henson is the former President of YDG (1980s), and former minority leader of the Senate. A long time labor union trainer, Senator Henson has long stood up for workers rights. Steve was progressive before it was cool, proposing a climate change resolution in 1993.
