Youth sports season is here! In this short video clip, Dr. Anderson shares tips on ways to protect and prevent young people from sports injuries during the season!
As your kids are gearing up for another school year, Dr. Anderson shares some tips to keep everyone healthy throughout the year.
1. Dress fit for the weather. It’s been a hot summer! Make sure kids are wearing comfortable, school appropriate clothes and shoes. And when temps finally cool off, be prepared and pack an extra sweater or jacket for them to keep warm.
2. Get your child a good backpack: wide, padded and doubled shoulder bags are the way to go! Avoid single shoulder bags that may strain your child’s shoulder. Carrying a heavy bag incorrectly can cause your child to develop poor posture and have muscle strains.
3. Establish healthy dietary habits: pack a wholesome lunch with lots of veggies, organic proteins, nuts/grains & fruit snacks. This will give them more energy and help them stay focused throughout the day.
4. Make sure your child is staying hydrated: Many children during school hours consume very little water and choose more sugary drinks. Encourage them to drink more water, educating them that it is essential for having a higher metabolism, regulating body temperature, flushing out body toxins, and lubricating their joints.
5. Does your child need supplements? Common supportive supplements for kids’ health include Vitamin D, Vitamin C, probiotics & immune support, and botanical herbs.
6. Ensure your child is getting good quality of sleep. It is generally recommended that children and adolescents should get 8-10 hours of sleep daily. Setting a bedtime and establishing a bedtime routine can be helpful in getting quality of sleep.
7. Manage stress and anxiety: No matter what the age is, school can be stressful and anxiety provoking for many. Stress can lead to many health ailments and impact the immune system. Good communication with your child can help create an open discussion. Mindfulness and breathing exercises can also help. Extracurricular activities are important but keep in mind not to over schedule your child.

Finding it difficult to prioritize your health with a hectic work schedule? Dr. Anderson shares some tips on embracing wellness at your workplace.
1. Be mindful of your health at your desk. Use screen filters, regularly change sitting positions, stand up and take short stretch breaks, and always be aware of having good posture while sitting.
2. Get your steps in. Take some calls while standing or walking throughout the day. Take the stairs instead of the elevator whenever possible. Use your lunch break to walk at least 10-20 minutes each day. Need accountability? Ask a co-worker to join you!
3. Maintain a work/life balance. Set a schedule for both work time and personal time that best fits your needs. Work enough to achieve your goals without sacrificing mental health and personal time needed to recharge each day.
4. Pre-plan healthy meals and snacks that you can take to work so you’re not grabbing fast or unhealthy food options last minute, or skipping meals due to work stress. Drink lots of fluids, especially water throughout the day.
