Why did you want to be an OT?
I wanted to be an OT after watching my young cousin who had a brain tumor receive OT and PT following his treatment. He recently graduated college and is doing very well thanks to his incredible team all those years ago.

Meet Elisa Pesto, Occupational Therapist!
Elisa's interest in occupational therapy arose from having a younger brother with hemiplegia and visual impairments. She made the decision in high school to pursue OT because of this desire to help others. After completing her undergraduate degree from Samford University, she completed her Masters in occupational therapy from UAB.
Elisa has over 18 years of pediatric experience and over 20 years experience as an OT. She has worked at Rehab Works serving pediatric patients for 14 years. She completed the University of Southern California Sensory Integration Continuing Education Certificate program in 2020. She also has continuing education in Handwriting Without Tears, Beckman Oral Motor program, the SOS (Sequential Oral Sensory) approach to feeding, the Ready Approach to Sensory Integration, and Interactive Metronome. She also recently became a Certified Lactation Counselor and looks forward to how this certification can impact her tiniest feeding patients! She enjoys collaborating with her coworkers and with her patients' families in a supportive environment.
Elisa loves spending time camping, hiking and being outdoors with her family. She also enjoys helping with children's activities at her church.
Happy Easter from RehabWorks!

This month we are highlighting our amazing occupational therapists. Our first clinician highligh is Mallory Payne, Occupational Therapist & Certified Athletic Trainer.
Mallory attended Troy University for her undergraduate degree in Athletic Training and the University of Alabama at Birmingham for her Master's of Science in Occupational Therapy. Mallory currently also serves at the Clinical Coordinator for adults and contracts part-time at The Orthopedic Clinic Opelika.
Her main areas of interest include post-op upper extremity surgical cases, neurological conditions, and cognitive/functional skills for return to functional skills.
Mallory loves being an OT because she enjoys seeing the progress with patients. She likes to push patients to their maximum capacity, even if the patient cannot see their own potential. She enjoys explaining the medical conditions to patients and helping them achieve their functional goals. She is a firm believer in hard work and expects the same from her patients.
