Summer cruises have commenced starting with CORTRAMID WEST. Where Auburn University midshipmen have spent 4 weeks at Naval Base San Diego experiencing the different Naval and Marine Corps communities.

During the first week in San Diego (Submarine week), they went underway on the USS Henry M. Jackson and observed submarine maneuvering, damage control drills, and tactical combat operations. On second week (Marine week), the midshipmen traveled up to Camp Pendleton, where they took part in an Immersion Trainer (IIT) which put their combat skills and endurance to the test. The next week was Surface Warfare (SWO) week which included ship tours, time with the Seabee community, and an underway on the USS Gridley. The final week of training was Aviation week, which included F-18 and Osprey simulators as well as a flight in the T-34C.

This training allowed the MIDN to get a better sense of the Naval and Marine Corps communities, while simultaneously teaching leadership, work ethic, and collaboration skills.

Yesterday we celebrated Presidents Day in honor of Auburn University president, Christopher Roberts. Auburn’s ROTC units are rooted in the Morrill Land Grant Act of 1862. This act enabled universities across the country to receive federal land in exchange for the training of students both academically as well as militaristically and tactically. Fast forward to 1912 comes the foundation of Auburn’s Army ROTC and in 1946 Navy and Air Force ROTC is founded. It has been since these days that the president of Auburn University has continued to support and enable us to train and commission highly capable officers. These officers include Medal of Honor recipients, Generals, Admirals, Congressman, Senators, and renowned Businessman, all whom have served with distinction and laid the foundation of the legacy which we benefit from today. It is this legacy, that we as Auburn ROTC have to live up too, and it is because of President Roberts that we are afforded the opportunity to do such a thing. So be sure to thank President Roberts for his continued support of our respective branches as well as everything he does for this university.

Last night, the Auburn-Tuskegee marine platoon had their Semper Fi dinner.
This is a very long tradition in which each senior marine option is given an engraved KA-BAR with a specialized number representing how many midshipman have commissioned through the program before them.

This morning, the Auburn-TU Marine platoon conducted their end of the semester event.

To continue on the tradition, each midshipmen in the platoon receives a hammer their freshman year, by senior year, they get their hammer, presented to them in dedication of their hard work and commitment to not only the platoon, but the battalion.

Thank you for all the dedication and leadership you all provided!

This morning the Auburn-Tuskegee marine platoon conducted Leadership Reaction Courses. LRCs require midshipmen to receive a mission, brief a plan, and then lead fire team members to complete each task. Midshipmen will be evaluated on LRCs at Officer Candidate School.
