SHIFT is heartbroken and yet so unbelievably inspired to celebrate the life and legacy of Lori Holleran Steiker, who died on Sunday, September 22.

Lori was so many things—our intrepid co-founder, beloved faculty in the Steve Hicks School of Social Work, Associate Dean of Wellness and Engagement in the Undergraduate College, a fierce advocate for the recovery community, and a visionary in holistic well-being. She was also our biggest friend, mentor, champion, and inspiration—every step of the way.

In 2019, Lori helped launch SHIFT, and we are driven to this day by her tremendous passion for college students and substance use safety. Not only did she dedicate her life’s work to addiction and recovery, but Lori also pioneered the vision that we can shift campus culture by empowering our students. And she did just that, every day, inspiring so many students in her “Young People and Drugs” Signature Course and others to join SHIFT and the effort to make meaningful change.

Lori was a force of nature and an inspiration to everyone she met. SHIFT is honored to continue her mission and uphold her legacy. Thank you, Lori, for everything.
