Helping people access the world by bike. The Ghisallo Cycling Initiative is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2011 and based in Austin, Texas.
Our goal is not only to provide Austin youth with supervised access to outdoor physical activity, but to help them develop into self-sufficient riders who have the skills and knowledge to use their bicycles for transportation without depending on adults. Our core tenets are opportunity, access, and equity and our programs focus on exploration, navigation, and transportation. Our primary clients ar

ATX! It's a perfect weekend to explore the Southern Walnut Creek and the new Austin-to-Manor Trail. This route has very few road crossings -- five to be exact, all in the last 5.5mi. Two of them have crossing beacons.
Safety & Planning tips:
🌎 Note: Google Maps hasn't added the final section of the Austin-to-Manor Trail yet.
Here's the Total **Round-Trip** Mileage to help you plan an out-and-back ride...
Govalle Park > Manor = 26.4 mi
YMCA East > Manor = 19.4 mi
Austin Tennis Center > Manor = 14.2 mi
Decker Elementary School > Manor = 8.6 mi
Govalle Park > YMCA East = 9 mi
Govalle Park > Austin Tennis Center = 13.2 mi
YMCA East > Austin Tennis Center = 7.2 mi
💧Be sure to hydrate before, during, and after the ride. Carry a couple bottles. Bring some sweet and salty snacks.
🌡Amenities are very limited along the trail, so plan accordingly. The only spots to refill water are at Govalle Neighborhood Park, YMCA East Communities, Austin Tennis Center, and in downtown Manor. Water at Ben Fisher Park is not always reliable.
🌮 Grab a taco in Manor! There's a food truck park just down the street from Ben Fisher Park.
🚦Use the pedestrian/cyclist beacons to cross at Johnny Morris/Daffan Ln and Daffin/Decker Lake Rd. They're safe and fast!
🚨 Be careful crossing Lindell Ln and Parmer Ln. The traffic tends to be light, but cars may not expect you given the newness of this section.
🙏 Remember: This trail is for all types of users -- cyclists, walkers, runners, wheelchairs, families with kids, and dogs on leash. Also, wildlife! Please be patient, courteous, and mindful. Demure. Especially when descending that long hill north of Loyola...you know the one. Don't be that person crossing into the other lane to speed around the corners...👀
🚲 Wear a helmet and have fun out there!
❤️🔥NEW TRAIL ALERT ATX!!!❤️🔥
We are thrilled for the opening of the new 5.5-mile Austin-to-Manor Trail!
This scenic, off-road, paved multi-use path extends the Southern Walnut Creek Trail from Govalle Park in East Austin to Ben Fisher Park in downtown Manor. With gentle hills and minimal road crossings, this path presents a safe recreational and commuting corridor for all types of users.
Thank you and all the cycling community partners who brought this project to fruition.
We look forward to even more connectivity over the next 3-5 years as Travis County builds multi-use paths along the Gilliland and Onion Creek corridors -- connecting Pflugerville to southeast Austin!
Please remember to be courteous, wear a helmet, and communicate with fellow trail users. Stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade. Share the trail and help us !

Wrap up the summer like a cycling champ! Follow these 11 awesome safety tips to keep your rides safe, fun, and refreshing! 🚴♂️🌞🚴♀️ Get There ATX CapMetro Texas Department of Transportation Ghisallo Cycling Initiative City of Austin Government
1. Stay hydrated! Drink before, during, and after your ride. Remember electrolytes and salty snacks.
2. Light Clothing. Wear light, loose, cotton-blended shirts. Synthetic materials wick sweat away and deprive your body of the cooling benefits. Bring a change of shirt if you're diving into some heavy A/C or going somewhere you don't want to be all sweaty.
3. Plan Ahead. Watch the weather, avoid the hottest times of day, and plan a comfortable route.
4. Avoid busy roads. These are hotter and full of car exhaust.
5. Hop a (CapMetro) train! Or take a bus! Mix and match your bike with other modes of transport to help you get where you want to go. Enjoy a summer book on the ride.
6. Use bike paths. These are safer and cooler, away from traffic, and usually shaded with trees. Greenbelts and paths near water tend to stay cooler (eg, Southern/Northern Walnut Creek Trail, Shoal Creek Trail, Johnson Creek Trail, Butler Trail, Violet Crown, etc.)
7. Seek shade. Take breaks.
8. Cool off indoors. Find a public library, coffee shop, or coworking space like Trick Hat or a museum. Or, cool off OUTdoors—in a pool, splash pad, or creek along the way.
9. Try an e-bike. The CapMetro MetroBike program is expanding around Austin, giving more people an opportunity to try e-biking. It's fun, fast, and a little easier on those scorching summer days.
10. Tune your bike. Don't put off that repair any longer—there's nothing worse than changing a flat in the Texas sun or breaking a chain. Some bike shops, like Mellow Johnny's and East Side Pedal Pushers, are located just off the bike path.
11. Wear a helmet. The styrofoam insulates your head against the heat, and you can wet a bandanna for additional cooling. Be courteous. Nobody likes a hot temper. And most of all, have fun! Turn your ride into an adventure!
Stay safe, and enjoy your summer rides! Remember to stay hydrated, dress appropriately, plan your route, and always wear a helmet. Make every ride a cool and fun adventure!
