Osseous Surgery aka “Pocket reduction surgery”

😷 Our hygienist did her best: pocket depths reduced from #8 from 7mm to 5mm
#3, 8mm to 6mm & #6 facial 6mm to 4mm
But this shows there’s always residual calculus left behind! ☠️

💉Osseous surgery is a type of procedure to treat moderate to severe periodontitis - gum disease destroys the bone and tissues that support your teeth. The main goal of osseous surgery is to reduce the pockets around your teeth so plaque and bacteria can't hide there.

🦠 Scaling and root planing is the first step & if pocket depths do not improve, then this surgery is the next step.

🦠 During this surgery the gums are cut back to clean away bacteria and repair the bone that may have also been damaged by gum disease.

🦷 This surgery also corrects deformities of the bone around teeth that could provide areas where bacteria could accumulate and grow, by smoothing shallow craters and irregular surfaces of damaged bone due to bone loss – caused by periodontal disease.

Don’t let your gums wild out!

Aka: Localized Gingival Recession 👀

❗️This condition occurs when the gum tissue starts to pull back or wear away from the tooth

🦷 88% of ppl over the age of 65 have gingival recession on 1 or more teeth

❓ This condition could be multifactorial; caused by gum disease, aggressive brushing, hormonal changes, anatomy, using to***co products, past orthodontic treatment and/or bone loss.

✅ This can be treated & possibly have better coverage. The sooner the better results!

I give it 3 months 😜

According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) you should replace a manual/electric toothbrush:

🪥 every Three to Four months
🪥 when bristles become splayed or frayed
🪥 color fade
🪥 if your teeth feel fuzzy after brushing
🪥 you were recently sick
🪥 has a bad smell
🪥 if you can’t remember how old it is

🚫 dont try & disinfect, just replace!

Some senior citizens are under the mistaken impression that as we age, tooth loss is inevitable. Although losing baby teeth is completely normal, losing adult teeth is not. Tooth loss is far from inevitable. While time and age can cause a decline in oral health, it is not age itself that causes tooth loss and other problems.

The most common cause of tooth loss among the aging generation is not aging, but rather periodontal disease, which slowly wears down the supporting tissues in the mouth, often leading to tooth loss. Periodontal disease becomes more likely as you age, both because plaque and tartar accumulate over time, and because oral hygiene may become more difficult as you age.

Six Basic Dental Implant Facts👇

1. The actual implant is a small titanium post

2. We insert the implant under the gums and secure it to the jaw bone

3. The visible portion of the tooth is a dental crown that a dental lab customizes to the patient’s other teeth

4. Dental implants are the only solution that replaces the missing root and tooth.

5. Dental implants do not compromise other teeth
Implants are the most long-lasting and natural-looking solution

6. Implants look so much like natural teeth, it is difficult to tell the difference between them

Studies suggests that smiling can help us recover faster from stress and reduce our heart rate. In fact, it might even be worth your while to fake a smile and see where it gets you. There's been some evidence that forcing a smile can still bring you a boost in your mood and happiness level.
