Coffee shops join fundraiser to support families seeking asylum Houndstooth Coffee announced that it will donate one dollar from every drink sold to the Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project.

We’re part of a national fundraiser Fri & Sat at all cafes. Here’s what Paul had to say about it in an internal staff email ~ Thanks in advance for joining us as we stand together- “All are welcome at Houndstooth. All are welcome.

The act of separating children from their parents at the border is despicable & unacceptable. Houndstooth will be joining dozens of other cafes around the country this Friday & Saturday to raise funds for ASAP. Yesterday's Executive Order aside, families are being terrorized in the name of security & superiority. The acts being perpetrated by this government on these families will be remembered as we remember Japanese internment & slavery; blights upon our history in a country that is supposed to be better. We're supposed to be better. We can help to make things better. $1 from every drink purchased at all 6 Houndstooth cafes this Friday & Saturday will be donated to ASAP. Guests will also be able to donate via Houndstooth to ASAP. I
Houndstooth will be matching donations up to $5k. We have the potential to facilitate a donation of well over $10k~ We have great folks on both sides of the bar, this is a chance for us to do something together that is substantial & good.

If you have the opportunity to visit the Statue of Liberty, I recommend you do so. Similarly, if you have chance to visit Ellis Island, please do. Unless you have made the journey yourself, I don't think any of us can imagine the hope, fear, pain and desire it takes to immigrate to the United States. It is no small thing for one specific place to represent so much to so many who have so little when the arrive. Similarly, I don't know if any of us can imagine the heartache of having our children wrenched away from us and caged like animals. Let us do what we can to correct the cruelty being done upon those who are looking for a better life. No life is more or less sacred than any other. The United States can be better than this. We can be better than this.

Thanks for being Part of the Pattern and lets do what we can to extend that Pattern to the border. We can stand up for those who aren't being given the chance to stand up for themselves.”
