The monsoon has been more productive than expected for parts of the Southwest and Mexico. This next ten-day period remains wet for much of that region. There is also a notably wet pattern from South Texas along the Gulf Coast to the Southeast. The wetter-than-normal period here remains for later summer through parts of fall. The moisture here is not from tropical cyclones, but remember that the hurricane season may be pretty active for those in prone areas, and something Matt Makens continues to watch for you.

This map shows potential rainfall totals through the next ten days should the thunderstorms pass over your area.

The largest cattle drive on record took place on Aug. 24, 1882, on the Texas Panhandle's sprawling T Anchor Ranch.

Though the drive only covered the distance from Tulia to Canyonโ€”about 35 milesโ€”the total tally was ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฌ,๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฎ ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ clocked through the gate.

According to the Texas State Historical Association, "Sixteen cowboys with a remuda of 125 horses herded 10,652 cattle to Big Lake and took half a day to run them through the fenceline gate. ... That night the cattle were bedded down over an area so large that it took over an hour for a horse to circle them at a fast trot."

The record has stood for 142 years.
