Bay Shore high school students got to see the great Malpaso Dance Company this week. On Monday Performance and IB Dance classes worked in the studio with these wonderful dancers. And on Tuesday the entire school got to see the Malpaso dancers perform. We can’t wait till they return! Thank you to all the teachers and administrators who made this residency possible.

Students in the WIN/WOW program at Bay Shore High School had the opportunity to participate in a dance residency with visiting artist Oya Bangura. This program was made possible by the Bay Shore Schools Arts Education Fund (BSSAEF) and funds from the Statewide Community Regrant Program administered through the Huntington Arts Council.

The playground at Brook Avenue School has new equipment for students to play on. This project was made possible through a bequest from the estate of Bill Lukan, a former speech teacher at Brook Avenue School, to the Bay Shore Schools Arts Education Fund (BSSAEF). The building would like to thank the Brook Avenue Parent Faculty Association (PFA) and the faculty committee for supporting the project.

Long Island’s First Lady of the Arts, she founded and led the Islip Arts Council for 31 years, building it into a world-class presenter of classical music. Tens of thousands attended her free NY Philharmonic park concert every summer. Born and raised in the Bronx, she married her high school sweetheart, Maurice Barbash in 1947. The two were inseparable until his death in 2013. Together they co-founded the Long Island Philharmonic, and commissioned pieces for Yo-Yo Ma and Emanuel Ax. After 30 years as an arts presenter LIllian and Murray co founded the Bay Shore Schools Arts Education Fund which continues to enrich the lives of Bay Shore students of all ages.
