Please join us in recognizing our Brother and Sister agencies in EMS this week. Fifty years ago, the first "National Emergency Medical Services Week" was established to recognize the vital work of EMS professionals and raise public awareness about EMS. Today, EMS Week is celebrated annually with various events and activities that honor the achievements of EMS professionals, highlight the importance of EMS in healthcare, and increase awareness of the challenges and issues faced by the EMS community.
Locally in Baldwinsville, the Greater Baldwinsville Ambulance Corps (GBAC) was founded in 1962 by a group of concerned citizens dedicated to ensuring that the Greater Baldwinsville community had a reliable ambulance service. GBAC is one of the oldest independent non-profit ambulance services in New York State. Today, we serve the Greater Baldwinsville community with a staff of 14 full-time, 32 part-time, and 15 volunteer paramedics and EMTs, as well as 5 additional volunteer board members. We operate a fleet of 5 Advanced Life Support ambulances, 2 fly cars, and 1 UTV to provide access in difficult areas of the district and during special events.
Over the years, many individuals have contributed exceptional service to both the organization and the community. Today, GBAC remains committed to providing the best possible emergency care. We are there for you when you need us.
Happy EMS Week to all those, past, present, and future. If you’re interested in volunteering with us and joining our team, please reach out. Thank you for all you do.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the members of the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office , Syracuse Police Department , the victims and their families, and all those impacted by this event.
TWO LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY:
On Sunday, April 14th, 2024, at about 7:07 p.m., Syracuse Police Officers encountered a suspicious vehicle in the area of Emerson Avenue and Hamilton Street. Police officers attempted to stop the vehicle, however, the driver refused to stop and fled the area. The officers lost sight of the vehicle but were able to record the license plate information.
Officers checked the vehicle registration and determined the registered owner resides on Darien Drive, in Liverpool, New York.
Syracuse Police responded to the address, along with members of the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office. The vehicle was found to be parked at a residence on Darien Drive.
Shortly after arrival, the police officers and sheriff’s deputies were encountered by an armed male and an exchange of gunfire followed.
One Syracuse Police Officer and one Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy were struck by gunfire. The armed suspect was also shot.
Both law enforcement officers were transported to Upstate University Hospital where life saving measures were conducted. The Syracuse Police Officer and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy succumbed to their injuries.
The suspect was also transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the two law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, as well as with their brothers and sisters in law enforcement who are suffering in the wake of this tragedy.
We thank the community for their outpouring of support.

We will never forget the events on September 11, 2001. GBAC like so many other agencies across NYS and the nation responded to the call to help. Our crew spent the following days assisting our fellow First Responder brothers and sisters with response coverage in NYC. These posts are never easy to write remembering those who answered their final call that day. Rest easy your sacrifice is not forgotten.
