Our newest Blue Jays recently embarked on outdoor adventures, including recreation canoeing and backpacking! These pre-orientation programs provide opportunities to make connections before classes begin, including explorations into the waters of the Potomac and walks on the Appalachian Trail!

Biomedical engineering major Emily Z., '25 recently shared her experiences utilizing the Makerspace, Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins University's manufacturing and design space!
After taking a multidisciplinary design elective, Emily applied skills learned to other coursework, including this group project where her team 3D-printed different pieces and laser-cut a wooden board to create their own board game. As a Hopkins undergrad, Melanie Shimano β14, MSEM β15 invented an air-sterilizing pillow for use on flights in her capstone class and then patented it with help from Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures (JHTV). Each year during intersession, students in the Film and Media Studies program travel to Los Angeles for five exciting days meeting with studio executives, television writers, and agents. This year, the group met with executives from Warner Bros. Pictures, Walt Disney Studios, DreamWorks Animation, CBS Studios, and Sony Pictures!

This summer Yvette S., '27, a rising sophomore majoring in political science and international studies, is interning for the U.S. Senate.
Through this opportunity, she's able to work directly with constituents, research policy proposals, and get hands-on experiences with federal policy, regulations, and services. Way to go, Yvette!
