Thank you, Sharon, for volunteering with teens for 10 years! You are a superstar. Over the years Sharon has mentored several students. She started as a teen tutor and helped the same student from middle school through graduation. She is still in touch with her first student and has recruited his younger brother to join the CCR program this year and will serve as his mentor. Lovely you are not only changing individual students' lives, but also their whole families! Thank you so very much for your long-time commitment and dedication to AHC's students.
Alyse started volunteering when a friend saw a flier about AHC's education programs. She was paired with a 7th grader and they are still working together five years later. Alyse says she has "a lot of fun seeing her student grow and progress." Building a relationship with a student is one of the things that's unique about AHC's education programs - and it's also one of the outcomes tutors enjoy the most! Thank you for your commitment, Alyse!
Thank you, Patricia, for volunteering to tutor teens at Gates of Ballston for five years! Patricia says she likes seeing her students "do well, learn, and discover." She also enjoys working with the teens because they are funny and "remind her of being that age." Clearly the students enjoy learning with you, too! Thank you for all you do!
Colin has tutored teens at Harvey Hall for five years and enjoys making a difference in people's lives. He says one of the proudest moments of his tutoring experience was "When the student I had been working with for most of his high school career stopped asking me for help with his math homework because he didn't need it anymore!" He also enjoys the moments "when you see things click for a student, and something they were frustrated with start to make sense." Thank you, Colin, for all you are doing for AHC's teens!

Lisa has volunteered for five years (thank you!) and has developed a real relationship with the same student she has worked with since she was in 6th grade. Now a junior in high school, the student is getting straight As, which Lisa says is a result of AHC's tutoring program's emphasis on routine and designated homework schedule. As their relationship has grown, Lisa also enjoys talking with the student about more personal experiences like the challenges of high school friendship drama!
Leslie Korn wears several AHC volunteer hats. In addition to running the weekly food distribution at Hunter's Park, she also tutors students at Woodbury Park two times a week. She loves watching the students grow and has a deep appreciation for the challenges the families face. One second grader from Nepal, for instance, told Leslie she knew her parents came to the U.S. for educational opportunities and was determined to make the most of it. That commitment to education is something Leslie says she has seen again and again among AHC students.
