His true calling and character came to the forefront that day!
“The Man in the Red Bandana”
Welles Crowther’s leadership and moral compass exemplified what calls us to the fire service.
We all, and especially FD’s leadership, should reflect on The Man in the Red Bandanas words……”Everyone who can stand up, stand up now” “and if you can help others, do so”
To all those murdered on 9.11.2001 - we remember!
A big thx and plug to for providing lunch this week during the water issue our firehouse and Sandtown-Winchester is experiencing!

Vacant or Vacant-Occupied?
It’s the subtle clues that tips the crews to the fact that these dwellings are occupied or not. These split second observations and attention to detail will factor in to a successful outcome or not.
This MOG appears vacant and desolate but the spray foam tells a different story. It was used to try and keep the draft out to the occupants inside. It has deteriorated over time and started to fall out of the vertical voids.
Many Thanks to Baltimore for the custom 8 Jersey - All the boyz from 1503 West Lafayette appreciate the thought!
stop by dinner and an autograph to put the finishing touch on it

HBD to the Great 8! 151 years of service to Baltimore City
On March 8, 1871 Engine Company No. 8 was organized and placed in service in a new station located on the south side on Mulberry St. between Schroeder and Oregon St. (now Arlington Ave.). The new station was a 2 story, 1 bay brick building built on a lot 120 ft. deep by 23 ft. wide for a total cost of $12,350. They operated the used steam engine "Alpha" (ex. Engine Co. 1) under the watchful eye of Capt. George W. Kroger. The "Alpha" would not serve this engine company long though. On May 22, 1871 Box Alarm No.7 was transmitted for the Brown Bros. Drug Warehouse on Sharp St. Engine Co. No. 8 with the "Alpha" was working from a hydrant on the northeast corner of Howard and German St.'s when the engine suddenly exploded, severely scalding Acting Engineman Charles King. Pieces of the boiler flew through the air and struck City Councilman Harry Weaver who was walking by, killing him on the spot.
This fire @500 blk of N. Carey Street posted on March 2, 2016 gave life to the . Lots of ups and downs in the fire service since then.
Not even Jobtown Joe could kill it!
HBD 127 years to BCFD Truck Co. 10!
On March 1, 1895 Hook & Ladder Co. 10 was organized and placed inservice in a brand new station located on the south side of Lafayette Ave. between Stricker and Gilmor St.'s. The new station was a 2 story 2 bay brick building built on a lot 145 ft. deep by 50 ft wide for a total cost of $19,000. They were assigned the used 1888 Hayes Aerial Ladder (ex Hook & Ladder Co. 6) and worked under the watchful eye of Capt. Thomas Montgomery. Hook & Ladder Co. No. 10 later re-designated Truck Co. 10 would operate out of this station with the horse hospital until Dec. 5 1912 when Engine Co. 8 moved in during beginning of the complete motorization of the fire department.
For those inquiring, and those proficient with a keyboard, this is a typical “vacant” dwelling in our first alarm district and across the City of Baltimore.
Life is never black and white, there is always an area of grey. Our decisions in protecting the public must factor that in.

The hurt, pain, and anger will fade to pure love - our memories and experiences with you will never waver
Thank you to those who risked everything and to those who brought them home
