Pine Tree Society
Pine Tree Society helps Maine people with disabilities discover a life of passion and purpose.
Pine Tree Society’s Adult Support Services program held their annual Range Pond BBQ yesterday. Individuals from both the Scarborough and Auburn locations didn’t let the weather damper their fun. They played games, swam, ate great food and visited with new and old friends. People were excited to see, Trish and Kaylee from our HR office and, Cindy, who is a longtime friend of Pine Tree Society. Many laughs were shared by all!
A big thanks goes out to all the staff for their help with planning, preparing, cooking, clean up and for ensuring all could participate. And a special thanks goes out to our lifeguard and friend, Emily, and to our one and only grill master, Bill, for sharing their day with us!
Pine Tree Society’s Community Support program is all about building community. Every day, we see clients like Bridget do more than they thought they could. “Bridget is amazing. She wants to establish friendships. She’s leaned how to ride the bus. She loves going out into her community. We’ve done the work and now she does it on her own.” Check out Bridget’s story here. https://pinetreesociety.org/bridget-we-know-shes-in-the-right-place/
“One of the big things I really like about the Early Learning Center is they take their time and are very on top of what my boys need. They don’t let anything fall through the cracks.” That’s how Brittney describes her experience with Pine Tree Society’s Early Learning Center in Auburn. Her sons Shumate and Gatlyn both attend this specialized preschool and receive classroom, speech and occupational therapy all at the same location. Having these vital services all under one roof not only saves the family time and money, it provides consistency and integration that helps the boys thrive. https://pinetreesociety.org/shumate-and-gatlyn-pine-tree-societys-early-learning-center-helps-brothers-reach-their-goals/

“He was comfortable being there.” That’s all it took for Luka’s big sister, Ilyana, to know Pine Tree Camp was going to be a special place. Finding a community with opportunities for enrichment and recreation had been challenging up until they found Pine Tree Camp. Before Luka was old enough to attend Camp Pine Cone this summer, their whole family came to camp in the winter and stayed overnight in a cabin. Athletes from Auburn’s Community Support Program Special Olympics Team participated in the State Games this past weekend in Orono. Our athletes competed in the Softball Throw, Standing Long Jump, 100 Meter Run, 50 Meter Run and 100 Meter Walk events. There were so many highlights over the weekend, including the return of the parade, the dance party and seeing so many friends! A huge shout out to the coaches and volunteers who supported our athletes in all the activities they love and helping them build community, relationships and friendships. We’ll keep in shape all summer long but our team is ready to enjoy a well-deserved summer break from competition!
