Oh my gerd, have those medicines ready in case of an emergency!

About half of all Americans take a prescription medicine every day. An emergency can make it difficult for them to refill their prescription or to find an open pharmacy. Organize and protect your prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs, and vitamins to prepare for an emergency.
Tips for Medications
โ€ข Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about how you can create an emergency supply of medicines.
โ€ข Keep a list of your prescription medicines. Include information about your diagnosis, dosage, frequency, medical supply needs and allergies.
โ€ข Store extra nonprescription drugs, like pain and fever relievers, antihistamines and antidiarrheal medicines.
โ€ข Have a cooler and chemical ice packs available to chill medicines that need to be refrigerated.

Maine recently passed a new law about clearing snow off of your vehicle. You can be pulled over and fined for a violation of this law. Make sure to remember to clean off the roof of your car.

Title 29-A: MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC
ยง2093. Snow and ice; duty of care
The operator of a vehicle with a registered weight under 10,000 pounds shall take reasonable measures to prevent snow or ice on the vehicle from falling off the vehicle while it is being operated on a public way. [PL 2023, c. 107, ยง1 (NEW).]

Some More Tips Before You Start Out
โ— Clean your carโ€™s external camera lenses and side mirrors
โ— Remove dirt, ice and snow from sensors to allow the assistive-driving features, like automatic emergency braking, to work
โ— In frigid weather, you may want to warm up the car before you drive
โ— To prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, never leave a vehicle running in your garage โ€“ even with the garage door up
โ— If the forecast looks iffy, wait out the storm; if you must travel, share your travel plans and route with someone before you leave

Resourcefulness is one of the keys to being able to provide safety!

Each year, Anheuser-Busch, in partnership with National Volunteer Fire Council, pauses beer production to can clean drinking water for firefighters. We are thankful to be one of the receiving fire departments this year. This water will ensure our members are staying safe & hydrated as they respond to long incidents or disasters such as wildfires. And thank you to Valley Beverage for taking the time to deliver the water to our fire station.

Thank you from all of us at Richmond Fire Department

Visit https://www.maine.gov/mema/maine-prepares/home-preparedness/preventing-thawing-frozen-pipes

Frozen water pipes aren't life threatening, however frozen or broken water pipes do cause damage to homes each winter. If pipes in the walls aren't properly insulated, they can freeze and rupture. (An 1/8-inch crack in a pipe can release up to 250 gallons of water a day, soaking floors, rugs, and furniture.) To prevent the mess and aggravation frozen pipes cause, protect your home or apartment by following the simple steps below.
Locate and insulate pipes most susceptible to freezing, typically those near
outer walls, in crawl spaces or in the attic. Use insulation made especially for this
purpose.
โ€ข Wrap pipes with heat tape (UL-approved).
โ€ข Seal any leaks that allow cold air inside where pipes are located.
โ€ข Disconnect garden hoses and shut off and drain water from pipes leading to outside faucets. This reduces the chance of freezing in the short span of pipe just inside the house.
๐“ฆ๐“ฑ๐“ฎ๐“ท ๐“˜๐“ฝ'๐“ผ ๐“’๐“ธ๐“ต๐“ญ
โ€ข Let hot and cold water trickle at night from a faucet on an outside wall.
โ€ข Open cabinet doors to allow more heat to get to uninsulated pipes under a sink
or appliance near an outer wall.
โ€ข Make sure heat is left on and set no lower than 55 degrees F.
โ€ข If you plan to be away: (1) Have someone check your house daily to make sure
the heat is still on to prevent freezing, or (2) drain and shut off the water system
(except indoor sprinkler systems).
๐“˜๐“ฏ ๐“Ÿ๐“ฒ๐“น๐“ฎ๐“ผ ๐“•๐“ป๐“ฎ๐“ฎ๐”ƒ๐“ฎ
โ€ข Make sure you and your family know how to shut off the water, in case pipes
burst. Stopping the flow of water can minimize the damage to your home. Call a
plumber, and contact your insurance agent. Never try to thaw a pipe with an
open flame or torch.
โ€ข Always be careful of the potential for electric shock in and around standing
water.
