This image (dated in bottom right corner 10/2023) is the current order of precedence for applicable Marine Corps League (MCL) medallions, medals, and ribbons. Share it with your fellow MCL members and be sure to assist them in the proper wearing and displaying of their MCL awards.
Refer to the MCL Administrative Procedures - Enclosure (4) Four: MCL Awards Guidance for proper size/color of star(s) and other devices for subsequent awards. There are several reasons why members don’t attend membership meetings. Exercise your resources to reduce excuses you can control. Read this quick list of considerations and evaluate your meetings:
1. Give proper advance notification (consistently). People's lives are busy and full of distractions. Sending meeting notice reminders at least one week in advance helps.
2. Have a written agenda available for all participants; and follow it. Have accurate (printed) minutes of previous meetings. Repeat.
3. Understand, follow and implement parliamentary procedure.
4. Don't be a stuffed shirt and make meetings so rigid or formal. Ensure they are enjoyable, engaging, and provide positive outcomes. There are protocols - but there is also reality.
5. Committees should be created to discuss project pros/cons, planning, etc. The committee chairperson brings back recommendations to the body. The full body does not need to discuss the details in a membership meeting; by doing so makes an easy way to add 30 extra minutes (for each action). Ongoing discussion of a project/activity or idea needs to be done in a committee, not in a membership meeting. Know when to send that type of discussion back to committee.
5. Consider a time limit for discussion; use an egg timer or something similar.
6. Consider an occasional guest speaker and engage a small discussion with the membership surrounding that speaker's topic.
7. Engage the participants during the meeting. consider opening each meeting with an ice breaker.
8. Don't let one person (or a small group of persons) dominate your meetings.
9. Implement a social (getting to know you) before or after each meeting; and ensure new members and/or prospective members are being engaged.
10. Don't have a meeting for the sake of having a meeting.
It’s official! The 250th anniversaries of the Navy and the Marine Corps will be grand celebrations!!! Click the link below for details.
“For the Marine Corps 250th Celebration, we will hold the 100th Marine Corps Birthday Ball where General Lejeune held the 1st Marine Corps Birthday Ball in 1925. The ballrooms at the Ben Franklin and Bellevue are ready, with the Bellevue Ballroom preserved as it looked when General Lejeune created this grand tradition. We can also host a larger Ball at the nearby Pennsylvania Convention Center, to give as many Marines as possible the chance to celebrate their 100th Ball in the City where the 1st Marine Corps Birthday Ball was held by General Lejeune.”
