We’re so proud of our 75 graduates who are “Sailing into a Bright Future!” Our Early Head Start Program is all about giving these kids a head start on success, both inside and outside of the classroom. From six months old to three years old, we’re here to support their growth and development every step of the way. As they move on to Pre-K or other early learning programs, we want them to know that we’ll always be cheering them on and rooting for their success. Let’s give a big round of applause for our graduates!
A special “thank you” to the moms, guardians, and our incredible YWCA Team who made the Early Head Start Graduation Ceremony run smoothly while having a blast with the little ones! We loved seeing them “Sailing into a Bright Future” with the art exhibit featuring colorful sea life, water, and sailing. Congratulations to all the graduates!
It was a wonderful day at the YWCA’s Early Head Start Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, May 30th! Our little ones did an amazing job performing songs like “Ocean Jam” and “Rock Your Body to the Colors,” showcasing what they’ve learned—colors, counting, and more! Congratulations to our graduates and their families!
YWCA Greater Baton Rouge's Early Head State Program holds graduation for young children BATON ROUGE - Thursday, 75 three and four-year-old children dressed in graduation caps and gowns took the first steps today to a life of serving and impacting their community. These kids are part of YWCA Greater Baton Rouge's Early Head State Program.
We are proud to have co-sponsored the 2nd annual “Healthy Baby, Healthy Me” baby shower with Healthy Blue, Southern University Ag Center, and Womanʼs Hospital. The event raised awareness of the importance of post and prenatal pregnancy care to ensure the health and well-being of both the mother and baby. Shatonda Chandler, YWCA Executive Director of Community Services, described the eventʼs mission saying "The health and well-being of these soon to be mothers and their infants are our major priority.”
and in the days ahead, we must honor Dr. King's vision to meet the promise of Brown v. Board as the "beacon of light and hope to millions...who dared only to dream of freedom". This dream is yet unfulfilled, but YWCA USA and YWCA associations across the nation continue to march forward.
YWCA Greater Baton Rouge is proud to co-sponsor the 2nd Annual "Healthy Baby, Healthy Me: Shower of Love" mother-to-be and baby shower. The event focuses on the importance of post- and prenatal-care stages of pregnancy to ensure the health and well-being of both the mother's health and the baby's development. Workshops, games, prizes, community resources, light refreshments are part of the May 9, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. event. The Shower of Love is open to the community by REGISTRATION ONLY.

YWCA celebrated the end of the school year with the amazing staff of the YWCA Early Head Start Centers. The lunch event included boiled crawfish, corn, potatoes, and also fried fish plates! Joining in the celebration were YWCA President Kathy Victorian and Councilman Cleve Dunn. This event was a thank you to the staff for their incredible support for students and parents. YWCA Dianna Payton distributed giveaways to the lucky winners. This school year 72 3-year-olds will transition from the YWCA Wyandotte Early Head Start and the Prescott Early Head Start Program into pre-school.
On Saturday, April 20, the YWCA Greater Baton Rouge team will participate in a community health fair sponsored by Greater King David Baptist Church the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc.'s Metropolitan Baton Rouge Chapter. YWCA is inviting you to attend and to invite friends and family. The "Bee Healthy" fair will be held on the church grounds at 222 Blount Road from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Participants can gather health and wellness information, get free blood and diabetes tests, nutritional information and many free giveaways. Activities for children will also be available.
YWCA Greater Baton Rouge proudly participated in the Health Fair sponsored recently by the East Baton Rouge Parish Housing Authority in North Baton Rouge. Numerous community partners offering numerous health and wellness information and services joined in the afternoon gathering. We were proud to welcome to the YWCA event table a family from our Early Head Start Center. Thanks to the Zion City community for attending this amazing event.
In a groundbreaking move toward addressing domestic violence in East Baton Rouge Parish, the CJCC has partnered with the YWCA Greater Baton Rouge, 19th Judicial District Court, District Attorney's Office, Office of the Public Defender and the Office of Probation & Parole to establish a Domestic Violence Intervention Court (DVIC) pilot program. It will provide a holistic approach to tackling the pressing issue of domestic violence. Judge Tiffany Foxworth-Roberts who presides over DVIC aims to hold offenders accountable for their actions and to provide them with necessary tools to break the cycle of violence. Louisiana currently ranks fifth in the nation in femicide with over half stemming from intimate partnership relations.

YWCA Early HeadStart staff extends a hearty “thank you” to the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority (AKA members shown) for their generous Easter Bag donations during an early Easter celebration on March 26.
