Christ the King at LSU
CTK exists so that we can be a family on mission forming lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ and His Church. LOVE GOD. LOVE OTHERS. MAKE DISCIPLES.
YOU were made for relationship. Unfortunately we are all broken through sin. In the fullness of time, God sent his only son, Jesus Christ, to repair that relationship and bring us back to life. Through prayer, the Sacraments, and relationship with Jesus, we can all begin to live this eternity now. (Acts 2:42)

Throughout the past few weeks back on campus, you might have seen some new faces around CTK! We welcomed three new FOCUS missionaries in August, and we're so excited to introduce you to them.
First up is Chalon!
Chalon is from New Orleans, Louisiana, where he graduated from Jesuit High School. He studied at Louisiana State University, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and graduated in 2020 with a degree in biology.
He has served as a FOCUS Missionary for the past four years—two at Texas A&M University and two at the University of South Carolina. Chalon is excited to be calling Baton Rouge once again with his wife and LSU alumna, Claire, and their baby, Joseph, to evangelize and build up fraternity men at LSU to launch them into lifelong mission as leaders in their future families, parishes, and workplaces.
We're so happy to welcome Chalon to our staff!
Join us for nursing home ministry!
Pope Francis tells us “We live in a 'throwaway culture, which uses people only so long as they are useful, after which the person is only a bother to society.” The loneliness and social isolation experienced in nursing homes have harmful consequences on the residents’ psychological, emotional and physical well-being. Our intention is to be antagonists against the prevailing “throwaway culture” by befriending and loving our elders.
On the following Sundays at 9:30 a.m., we'll be visiting St. Clare's Manor Nursing Home:
Sept. 8
Sept. 22
Oct. 13
Oct. 27
Nov. 10
Nov. 24
Dec. 8 (Advent caroling: 1-2:30 p.m.)
We will meet in the CTK parking lot at 9:15 a.m. and carpool to St. Clare's Manor.
Contact Evan at [email protected] with any questions or for more information.

"The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin is a singular participation in her Son's Resurrection and an anticipation of the resurrection of other Christians: In giving birth you kept your virginity; in your Dormition you did not leave the world, O Mother of God, but were joined to the source of Life. You conceived the living God and, by your prayers, will deliver our souls from death." CCC 966
Today we celebrate The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a Holy Day of Obligation. Join us for Mass at 12 p.m. or 6 p.m. and for confessions at 11 a.m.

Happy Olympics! 🏅🏐🤩🏆🇺🇸
This year’s games are extra special to the CTK family! We are proud to share that FOCUS missionaries Kelley Hartman and Katie Kampen traveled to Paris on a special assignment to share the Gospel and be the face of Christ to athletes in the Olympic Village. Kelley played indoor volleyball at the University of South Alabama and is now beginning her fifth year as a Varsity Catholic missionary at LSU. Katie played indoor and beach volleyball at LSU and is now serving as a Varsity Catholic missionary at The Ohio State University.
We have also been eagerly cheering on Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss as they compete in the Olympic beach volleyball games. Kristen and Taryn became a volleyball powerhouse duo during their time on the LSU beach volleyball team. Taryn was active in our ministry during her graduate years here after graduating from Creighton University!
We are praying for our 31 Tiger athletes competing in the Olympics! May God grant them peace and protection and may they always glorify Him in their successes.
St. Sebastian, pray for us!
“At your word ordinary bread will become the Bread of Life — the Body of the Lord and at your word sins will be forgiven and souls will be washed clean. Your word will become His own life-giving Word.”
- St. Theresa of Calcutta

"The Heart of the Good Shepherd is not only the Heart that shows us mercy, but is itself mercy. There the Father's love shines forth; there I know I am welcomed and understood as I am; there, with all my sins and limitations, I know the certainty that I am chosen and loved.
The Heart of the Good Shepherd tells us that his love is limitless; it is never exhausted and it never gives up. There, we see his infinite and boundless self-giving; there we find the source of that faithful and meek love which sets free and makes others free; there we constantly discover anew that Jesus loves us 'even to the end' (Jn 13:1), to the very end, without ever imposing.
The Heart of the Good Shepherd reaches out to us, above all to those who are most distant. There the needle of his compass inevitably points, there we see a particular 'weakness' of his love, which desires to embrace all and lose none."
- The Core of a Priest's Heart, Pope Francis
Happy Father's Day, Fr. Mathew! Thank you for always reflecting the heart of the Good Shepherd. We look forward to many more practical jokes, Fridays with Father, intentional conversations and glimpses of eternity.
We also wish all of our biological, spiritual, foster, step, adoptive, in-law, single and widowed fathers a Happy Father's Day! We pray this day is filled with much joy and consolation.

Spring break recap🤩
We traveled all over for spring break this year!
Three of our FOCUS missionaries, Kelley, Olivia and Sebastian, traveled to Brazil for a mission trip to work with Mission Brazil, a branch of the Christian Life Movement. They spent time visiting the local people in their homes, hearing their stories and praying with them.
Meanwhile, FOCUS Greek missionaries Jess and Maddie brought students on mission to Chimbote, Peru, where they partnered with Friends of Chimbote to build homes for local families and spend time with those who received them. They also served the community by distributing food to locals and cleaning up a local Catholic parish in Cambio Puente!
Women's ministry stayed stateside, traveling to Camp Covecrest in Tiger, Georgia, for a mountain retreat. Students explored Georgia's beautiful landscape, hiking, watching sunsets and enjoying nature. The retreat focused on the Good Shepherd and was filled with time to rest, pray, reflect and play outside.
We're still soaking in the graces from our travels and dreaming of more trips to come. We can't wait for next year!
