Tonight we visited the LSU Spring Cafe presentation on the threat to coral in the Caribbean and learned that the biggest threat to coral is warming seas. Each coral has a temperature threshold, and once that is reached, they are in trouble. Studies continue on how to build coral tolerance to higher temps.

Last weekend we had a great checkout dive! The weather threw us some curveballs but we made the best of it. Day 1 in the Gulf, the weather held out and we dove the Bart and Bridge Span 14. Saw some toadfish, a bristle worm and someone even found a mantis shrimp. Thanks a bunch to Panama City Dive Center for your hard work and help in making it such a success. On day 2, it started out quite dark. Fleet and Tanner worked with our instructors and it turned into a great dive at Bridge Span 6. There were Cobia, starfish and even a nudibranch!

Mini season in the Florida Keys was lots of fun! In addition to spiny lobster, we saw lots of nurse sharks, sting rays, morays, lion fish, and even a scorpion fish and an octopus. Planning more underwater adventures soon, so stay tuned.

Great checkout dive this weekend. Vortex Springs wasn’t too cold and we had beautiful weather Friday. Panama City Dive Center was very busy this weekend but they as usual were on point. We were on the Reef Runner the first day and Island Diver the second. Four Open Water students had great dives and are earning certifications. Thank you to Todd Williams our instructor, and instructor candidates Pat Wennemann, Chris Ray, plus dive master candidates Rory McCracken, and Mike Michael Duplessis for all you do to support Underwater Adventures!
