UPDATE*****
Kitty has a home now.
Trying to find someone to take this kitten found in Bay City. A friend of mine’s sister found the kitten and will only keep through the day today and then letting go outside.
If you or you know of anyone who would take this baby, please text me on 989.941.8878.
I’ll pay for spay or neuter and food and litter til you get acclimated at home with the kitty.
Good home only please. And the kitty is friendly - not crazy wild. You can hold the baby.
Thank You.

Today I highlight another hometown hero - Anderson Beardon.
Anderson has spent the last 15 years helping students and parents get a college education.
As parents, we want the best for our kids and getting a secondary education helps their chances in life so they have more options….From starting their own business to following their passions in a profession, the more they learn the better equipped they will be at making it.
A college education greatly enhances options for students and it’s almost impossible in today’s world to pay for this working part time jobs.
So Anderson has taken his 15 yrs of experience from SVSU and is coaching students and parents on how to pay for college.
It’s a complicated maze and Anderson can help. Anderson said “Too often, families tell me, we make too much, so our child won’t get scholarships or they haven’t saved enough and don’t know what to do. They’re frustrated because they’ve worked hard, want a better life for their kids and it feels like the game is rigged against them.”
Anderson has helped thousands of students enroll in their dream schools and chosen recipients for more than $10 million dollars in scholarships.
Anderson stated, “I started Complete College Advising because families need someone to listen and advocate for them so that their children can reach their career and education goals without a lifetime of debt. I will help your student find their passion and the funding they need to pursue it.”
Anderson can be found on Facebook and has a website: https://completeadvising.com
A special highlight for one of Bay City’s hidden heroes, Lori Gromaski. Lori and I became friends about 10 years ago based upon a common interest in running on our rail trail network and vintage SUVs.
In the past couple of years, Lori has started a new business - creating hand crafted jewelry that are works of art.
Lori is inspiring because she is driven….Lori has made the leap by following her personal passions and curiosity and turning those into a business…and she’s damn good at it. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen such a talented artist.
I asked Lori where are you from and what is your connection to Bay City? Lori: I’m a lifelong resident of Bay City and have been metalsmithing and jewelry making for about three years now. I love working with and setting stones, especially Michigan sourced stones. I do my metal work with mostly silver, copper and argentium. I have had no true formal metalsmithing or lapidary education, just a huge amount of curiosity and desire to learn all I can. YouTube videos have been a tremendous tools in my learning during Covid, as well plain ol’ experimentation, trial and error, and eventually success. I do much of my own lapidary work for my jewelry, right down to collecting my own stones from Michigan sources. Sometimes I’m snorkeling in our Great Lakes for interesting rocks, or excavating them in the Keweenaw mine dumps. I especially enjoy hunting for Michigan’s state gemstones, the Chlorastrolite, or Greenstone. It is only found on Isle Royale, and a slightly darker version is found in the Keweenaw in our Upper Peninsula. I love rock hunting as much as transforming them into beautiful pieces!
What inspired That Girl Creations? Lori: Getting into jewelry making was an evolutionary process. Over Covid I began exploring acrylic painting, and was doing some research online for different techniques and came across videos showing some simple rings being made. I became immediately intrigued, and ordered a few supplies. The obsession and passion began! I now have a business of my own, That Girl Creations, LLC selling my pieces at art shows, a few retail stores, Etsy, and will soon be a permanent vendor at a new all female owned business co-op opening in Tawas City called “Market on Route 23”.
I came up with my business name because when my nephew was a toddler, he had a hard time remembering my name, as we didn’t see each other often due to him living in Illinois. He always just called me “that girl”, wanting to go to “that girl’s house”. He once drew a map with sidewalk chalk at his house in Illinois to “that girl’s house”. I always thought it was so cute!!
Will you make custom pieces and what’s your most memorable piece? Lori: I do some custom work, as my busy schedule allows. Right now I have a couple wedding rings I’m working on. I feel completely honored to be chosen to create such important pieces of jewelry for my clients. One of my favorite pieces to make are stone inlay bands.
What is your “Day Job”? Lori: Away from my home studio, I work full time as a Production Technician at SC Johnson here in Bay City where we produce 85% of the Ziploc bags manufactured worldwide. I enjoy backpacking, travel, kayaking, ice climbing, skiing, snowshoeing, basically anything outdoors. Winter is my favorite season! I have one adult son, and soon a daughter-in-law as they are getting married in September. I am also a huge advocate for organ donation, as I am awaiting kidney donation surgery for a cousin through the Paired Donation Program at U of M.
