DOWNWARD FACING DOG elongates and lengthens the back.
Many people—from office workers to drivers, teachers and moms—are in a constant forward bend all day and would benefit immensely by stretching and lengthening the back shoulders and front body.
Additionally, downward facing dog is a mild inversion which is great for increasing blood flow to the brain and eyes. And because it stimulates the nervous system, it also helps with memory and concentration.
Downward facing dog stretches the shoulders, hamstrings, calves, arches and hands, improves digestion and relieves headaches, back pain, insomnia and fatigue. Often offered as a resting pose, this pose reminds us that everything changes!
Place your hands shoulder distance apart. The crease of your wrists should be parallel to the top of your mat and spread your fingers wide. Press the entire palm and pads of your fingers into the mat.
Feet are hip distance apart.
Externally rotate your upper arms. Turn the “soft” side of your elbows to face forward. Squeeze your “wing” muscles to create stability across the upper back.
Allow the neck and head to follow along the same line as the spine, bringing your gaze between your hands.
Engage the lower belly by pulling the naval towards the spine. This core activation will help take weight off the shoulders and wrists
Bend the knees (as much as needed) and send the tailbone up and back. Let the focus be on your spine first. Then, if your hamstrings will allow, begin pressing your heels towards the floor.
Internally rotate your thighs by turning your inner-thighs towards the ceiling. This will give you more room to lift the sit bones
TIPS
If you have a wrist injury, you may need to modify to the forearms (Dolphin Pose) or try this pose against a wall
If your hamstrings are tight, keep your knees bent or consider placing blocks under your hands.

1 cup water adjust to your thickness preference
1 teaspoon matcha powder
1 frozen banana
1 tablespoon almond butter
1 handful greens of choice
1 serving vanilla protein powder
Add honey if you like it a little sweeter

We know that 365 days ago we imagined a very different 2023 and so, on the precipice of a year that promises to be just as confusing, difficult and complex, some feelings might be coming up around New Year’s eve.
Maybe you want to do a ritual, or you really just want to zone out and eat chocolate and watch The Crown. Both are valid.
If you want to do something to acknowledge the new year but you’re also feeling resistant, then we have something that might hit the spot.
We’d like to offer you a moment of reprieve and help you to notice what may have gone well last year, and name what you hope for the next. We want to help you not just pay, but INVEST your attention to what is NEW and GOOD in your life, what is FRESH in your surroundings and what you can take into this new year.
If you want, take a moment and answer these questions for your own mini ritual. You can make the process as simple as jotting out your thoughts on a piece of paper, or as elaborate as building yourself an altar and creating space.

Perspective is a movement in time that cannot be fully appreciated until the moment has passed. Learn to see things not different perspectives and never limit yourself to just one point of view. Good and bad are simply just different perspectives. Two people can look at the same thing and see it totally different and that is ok. Rewrite your narrative if you don’t like it. You will in turn rewrite the chemistry in your body. Yoga helps us feel things and see things from a different perspective. It allows us to be humble and it truly teaches us to learn to go inward and grow or deepen our love for ourselves and others.
Your reality is as you perceive it.
Sometimes a small change in perspective is all it takes to see the light.
