Likely won’t be out chasing Northern lights tonight, but if you have a chance you should! It’s supposed to be a pretty strong storm tonight with visibility here in Oregon.

We had the great fortune of seeing them for the first time in Iceland on Breanna Weil birthday at the Highland Base in Kerlingarfjöll, Iceland.

We had 4 straight nights of magic and it was worth waking up in the middle of the night to see. Watching them dance overhead is something that is so hard to describe. More images and Timelapse’s to share later, but here’s one of my favorites.

Winter is hanging around a bit longer here in the Northwest, so here’s a chilly scene from a few years back from a special place.

Hey all! Been a bit quiet on here lately with travel and life, but hoping to get back into more regular edits and posts. For now I wanted to share that my 2024 calendars are available again for purchase, with 100% of the profits going towards Special Olympics Oregon.

As with everything, costs have risen over the past two years and in order to be able to donate some from each calendar, I unforunately need to set the calendar cost at $35. Free pickup in the beaverton area (or i can arrange a meetup) or 10.99 drop shipped (shipping costs went up as well).

I appreciate everyones support over the years and hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!

If you are interested, please click the link below to fill out the form and I'll follow up with you. You can also message me here, or on IG

Still one of, if not the, most amazing experiences I’ve had. Standing next to an erupting volcano with a lake of magma bubbling and boiling. Hoping the flow continues for our trip back!

Shout out to the best ubervan driver for getting us to the highlands of Iceland safely, and also for taking the time to sit down and show me some new tricks in post-processing. This is from a 2021 hike in Landmannalaugar. The multicolored hills here are phenomenal and I’m looking forward to getting back here soon.

I wish I could take credit for planning this shot, but I chalk up to being in the right place at the right time…and a little bit of luck.

The majority of my milky way shots are planned out ahead of time, but this was a moment of serendipity. We had a sunrise reservation for Haleakala. I did check when the moon rose and the milky way set but I figured it wasn’t a good possibility with too much moonlight by the time we planned to arrive. However we ended up at the summit a little earlier than I originally thought. I quickly jumped out of the car and got a couple shots before it was too bright. I got really excited when I saw what ended up on the screen: The moon was opposite the milky way and front lit this building.

This is the result of 10 images, taken one after the other, and stacked together to help reduce noise in the image.

Looking forward to some R&R on Maui along with family time. Gotta say there are worse places to have to visit your sister :) Here’s a couple shots from previous trips.

A couple years back we got permission to shoot overnight at the wooden shoe farm. The plan was to shoot Milky Way, but we didn’t anticipate a surprise visit from the Aurora. Here’s a shot from that magical night. I hope to be able to get a frame with both the Milky Way and aurora someday, but this happened to quickly and I only have the tail 🙂

I’ve been really slacking on my goal to edit and post more here. Its overwhelming to go through the backlog, and figure out what I’m “feeling” on any given day. I overthink what photo to post and whether it fits the aesthetic and “theme” of the rest of my posts. I over think what to say. As if I need to impart some kind of wisdom or make the caption catchy or engaging. I also sometimes lack the social energy (or time) to reply back to each and every comment, which is something I try to always do. These are really just excuses and I need to just start posting and get back to the joy that photography has brought me all these years. Editing and posting allows me to revisit wonderful experiences and think back to those amazing times.

Keeping with the snowy theme we’ve had lately here in the Pacific Northwest, here’s an image from a few years back (and a couple more from the same day).

Hey Friends. It's that time of year again for calendar orders. As I have for the past few years, all profits from the calendar will benefit a charity. With the rising costs of everything, I'm choosing the Oregon Food Bank to benefit local families. As someone that was a recipient of food assistance as a teen, I very much appreciate what they do.

Calendars are still $30, picked up locally, and $37.50 shipped (shipping is a bit more this year due to gasoline costs).

You can check out the calendars at this link, and fill out the form, or message me privately to arrange your order.

Thanks again for your support!

Finishing up my 2023 calendars forced me to edit a bit. I love the simplicity of this tree standing out in the fog.

For those that have asked about calendars, I’ll be posting something soon with the images.

Have a wonderful day!

Crisp fall mornings

In many ways this first sunrise of 2022 symbolizes a lot of things for me: It’s a start to a new year, my birthday is in a couple days, and it’s a start to a new chapter in life after a long, tough season.
Shooting sunrises is a lot like life. You start out in the quiet and in total darkness not knowing what the conditions are going to be like when the sun finally appears. You have hope and anticipation for what might be or what might happen. You have doubts on whether you made the right choice to get out. Second thoughts on whether you should have gone somewhere else. Sometimes you get amazing color, and sometimes it’s clear. Sometimes you’re socked in with fog and you wish you’d slept in. It’s that unknown and that hope in great things happening that keeps you going….
I’ll post the actual sunrise photo at some point, as well as a timelapse. This one resonated with me, as well as a couple other folks. Heres some beautiful untouched snow and Mt Hood. A blank canvas to start the new year.
special shoutout to for being a good friend and pushing us to get out…and also threatening me if I didn’t post 🙂

“Death has been beaten;
The grave has been conquered.
Jesus is Risen;.Life ever after” - Phil Whickam

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter Sunday. No matter what our belief system is(and we all have one), we could do a far better job as humans of loving and respecting others for who they are.

This was taken in one of the most beautiful and peaceful settings I’ve seen for a church, in Grand Teton National park.

Sat down to edit for the first time in a long time. With a pretty large backlog it’s usually overwhelming and easier to procrastinate and do nothing. A friend today said “Scroll through and just pick what grabs your eye today”...So here’s an image from this past summer. Hope you all are doing well and have a grape week!
