Press Release:
Maryland State Delegate Andre Johnson Condemns Larry Hogan’s Endorsement from Maryland Forward
Date: July 18, 2024
Contact: Maryland State Delegate Andre V. Johnson Jr. - [email protected]
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Today, Maryland State Delegate Andre Johnson issued a statement condemning former Governor Larry Hogan for accepting an endorsement from Maryland Forward. Delegate Johnson expressed deep concern over the organization's recent comments regarding U.S. Senate candidate Angela Alsobrooks.
“Maryland Forward’s insinuation that voters are supporting Angela Alsobrooks solely because she would be the first African American woman to represent Maryland in the U.S. Senate is profoundly offensive and unjustly diminishes her extensive qualifications,” said Delegate Johnson.
“We are profoundly disappointed that Larry Hogan has chosen to embrace an endorsement from an organization that promulgates rhetoric which reduces Black female candidates to their race and gender. Just yesterday, Larry Hogan professed his 'respect' for Angela Alsobrooks, yet today, he aligns himself with an entity that effectively marginalizes her as merely a 'DEI' candidate.”
Angela Alsobrooks is a distinguished leader committed to advancing our collective future — ensuring our freedoms are safeguarded and our families can thrive. As State’s Attorney, she achieved a 50% reduction in violent crime. As County Executive, she has spearheaded efforts to bring the FBI to Maryland and has driven unprecedented economic development.
“Her experience, both lived and professional, along with her vision for our future, have inspired and energized countless Marylanders,” continued Delegate Johnson. “We call on Larry Hogan to unequivocally reject this reductionist endorsement from Maryland Forward.”
