Running a small business is not for the faint of heart. Recently some long standing businesses in the community have shut their doors for various reasons, lack of quality staffing, customers that have become abusive (Roseland Coffee Bar had a recent post about this), unreasonable expectations, Personal life crossing over into business time (like when there’s a death in the family or a much needed vacation is taken), when prices need to increase because supplies are still a problem, when people see your success and try to open a version of your business and use your company as a guideline. Owning your own business can put a target on your back for gossip, it’s amazing some of the things I’ve heard (😂😭)It’s just not an easy task emotionally or physically. We have only been around 14 or so years (can never keep that straight lol) and I’m struggling to keep everything together. Recently my brain had a fracture (symbolic), while helping prepare my kids to both leave for college (empty nesters this week) I completely messed up schedules, customer orders, and production. I need to apologize to my custom orders that didn’t get done and should have, as you all provided plenty of time for me to complete them!
To my staff who had to call one of their husbands to cut the lock on our door because I wasn’t clear with instructions, for them running to the store to buy a replacement lock, for walking my dog, and standing in my place to deal the bad news to excellent customers that their orders still weren’t ready-you went above and beyond and you didn’t have to. For people that wanted appointments with me to deal with their more complex health issues in regards to supplements and nutrition who have been waiting…I’m sorry to all of you. I have been running at low price points in order to keep things affordable, but we need more staff to help, we need help with creation of labels, we need help with yard work and while we have tried to do everything ourselves, things are falling through the cracks. Please bare with us while we try to reorganize a bit, I’m going to drop a few more balls, before I can pick them all up. I would love for us to be around for years like Buttermores Jewelers was, Naural Remedies Spa, Marietta Wine Cellars, and Wards Farm Markets. But there is a reason they are all closing. There are not a lot of resources to help small businesses, it is easy to get burned out. Please shop local, support The Village Cakery, Seaman’s General Merchandise, Hocking Tire (I’m due for new tires see you soon!), Belairs Bistro, Shrivers Pharmacy and all the other mom & pop shops out their. If they mess up, please don’t quit them, I’m sure they feel overwhelmed too and are doing their best.

Here are some of the back-to-school items that my college students are going to be taking with them. Our Best Defense Soap and Salve is ready to take home, this is perfect for wounds, healing bruises, cuts, apply to stitches if you have had surgery, great for friction rashes and preventing them (think between the thigh area when walking). I’ve even used the salve as a deodorant in a pinch. Because of its antifungal/antibacterial qualities the soap and salve are great for washing and using on armpits and feet, use to help prevent bedsores.
Today I am working on our Mosquito Repellents and making more of our all natural Makeup that has an SPF of around 35. I love wearing this makeup in the heat, because it provides sun protection, and I can sweat, and it won’t go anywhere, leaving my skin feeling like I have no make up on at all!

As some of you may have noticed, we have been away from the store. A vacation was in order and when we left, our Lady disappeared around June 12th. You all know how friendly she is, we are assuming someone picked her up mistaking her for a stray. Please keep your eyes out. She is very loved and our family (and other cat Sonic black cat pictured) are desperate to have her back! Sonic has lost around 6 lbs since she left! He is not a snuggly cat, so what he is doing is very unusual. Please help us locate Lady!
