Irene is our Communications and Events Coordinator!
“Hi everyone, I’m Irene and I’m a junior majoring in Agriculture and Natural Resources and minoring in Sustainability. I’m an international student from Thessaloniki, Greece which is where I am also spending this semester. What I love most about my job as a Communications and Events Coordinator is that I get to interact with the campus community in different ways and spread the message about the cool things we do in the Office of Sustainability to make Berea greener.”
Usually this time around, we have our Annual Dandelion Festival!
The Dandelion Festival is a way to celebrate and help people understand how beneficial native weeds, such as the dandelion, can be to local ecosystems.
Unfortunately, this year due to the coronavirus pandemic we are not able to have this festival. We can’t wait to have it again next year! 🌱🌼🌿🌸🍃
Don’t forget that the Forestry Outreach Center is hosting two more Bike and Hikes this month! Check out their recent Instagram post on for more information! 🌲🥾🚲

Yrys is our Waste Diversion Program Coordinator
“I’m Yrys, I’m a third-year student from Kyrgyzstan and I work as the Waste Diversion Coordinator at my labor position. I’m double majoring in Business (Management Information Systems) and Sustainability Studies. I really like karaoke, playing guitar, and biking places.
I like that I belong to cross-functional teams here at the office. Students here don’t work on projects alone by themselves; quite the opposite, our small community nurtures collaboration. I also like that our workplace is data-informed and data-driven. Data can inform countless retrospectives and influence our strategy. I like that I can apply my value-driven approach and technical skills to cultivate environmental integrity at the college. This is where it’s at!”

Vidya is our Lead Bike Repair Technician
“Hi! My name is Vidya and I’m the Lead Bike Repair Technician at the Office of Sustainability’s bike shop. I’m from Richmond, Virginia and am currently a sophomore Technology and Applied Design major. I love every part of my job—I get to use cool tools, help students with any and all of their bike-related needs, collaborate with people and departments from all around campus, and breathe new life into abandoned bikes. We’re currently looking for another bike repair technician to work alongside me next year, so if you’re mechanically inclined, love bikes, and helping out people, please do not hesitate to contact me for more info!”
