Greetings Karateka!
Fall practice begins tomorrow, September 1st, at 6pm in the Martial Arts Room in the RSF. We will continue practicing in the RSF for now, but will hopefully move back to Hearst later in the month.
There will be no practice Monday, September 6th due to the Labor Day holiday. Enjoy your long weekend!
The registration links are still not updated. Do not register yet. You do not need to be registered in order to attend the first couple practices; UCMAP policy is to offer two βtry-outβ classes for free. We are still working on getting the registration links updated.
Please fill out this online waiver before practice: https://bit.ly/ucmapwaiverf21-su22. This waiver is required for participation in practice, even if youβre just trying out.
Unfortunately alumni and community members are not permitted in campus buildings at this time. We will keep you updated if this policy changes.

Laura Lowman shares that martial arts has "given me the confidence to continuously work toward a better understanding of all that I do." She started with UCMAP as an undergrad at Cal and has continued in the years afterward, continuing to train even as she pursued an MFA at SF State. She still finds time to serve as the MSO of the Cal Karate Club.
Like Laura, many of UCMAP's members started as undergraduates, thanks to UCMAP's place on the Cal campus. And this experience is invaluable β training in martial arts gives students a way to learn more about themselves and changes the way that they interact with the world. Martial arts is as much life philosophy as it is a physical practice, and having access to these lessons early on can give students a leg up on life.
We only have 3 more days in our Crowdfund campaign β support UCMAP's mission today to provide a quality martial arts education to the Cal community! Click here to donate: https://crowdfund.berkeley.edu/project/25501
Dr. Kasra Nowrouzi has been practicing karate with UCMAP for six years, and points out key lessons that apply to both personal and professional spheres, including as a leader in cutting-edge quantum computing experiments at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. π₯Ό He adds, "Martial arts taught me to focus, stay attentive and aware, to have patience, and to recognize the correct timing to maximally exert or relax."
Kasra dabbled in Wushu before finding his martial arts home in karate. π₯ UCMAP's six martial arts give students the ability to explore a broad spectrum of styles until they find a community where they belong. We're still raising funds for 10 more days to prepare for our return to campus - check out our Crowdfunding site at https://crowdfund.berkeley.edu/project/25501
