Barnyard Blitz
Get ready for some barnyard excitement! Our furry friends need extra TLC during the winter, and we’re going to find out how to keep them happy. Hibernation Station
Get ready for a cozy winter journey at our Nature Center! Curious about how frogs, turtles, and other critters hibernate? Join our fun-filled session to learn all about hibernation through stories, playful activities, and hands-on science. We’ll explore the woods, meet some sleepy animals, and share lots of laughs. It’s a perfect adventure for young explorers eager to discover nature’s sleepy winter secrets!

Winter is officially coming and animals have been preparing! Let’s talk about how animals get ready, which animals truly hibernate, and meet some of the animals at our center who don’t have to worry about hibernating!

Sometimes are animals get sick and need a little extra tlc. Gus has an upper respiratory infection( similar to what we get) so both boys went home with Ms Nicole. They have been getting meds twice a day which they take happily in some tasty food and some extra pets too! Hoping you will see them again next week back at the nature center!
Ms. Nicole here. So excited for tomorrow’s Hibernation Station class. Come dressed in layers because at 4:00 we will meet in the barnyard to give the animals a snack before their bed time!

History
For 60 years, the New Britain Youth Museum, a non-profit museum and nature center, has served as an educational resource for children, youth, families and teachers in central Connecticut. The New Britain Youth Museum in downtown New Britain, CT offers school programming, outreach, exhibits and special events that focus on history, art, science and the cultural heritage of the diverse peoples of the region. The New Britain Youth Museum at Hungerford Park, Kensington offers educational programming, exhibits and special events that relate to environmental education, biological and animal sciences, and STEM.
The collection of the New Britain Youth Museum consists of over 12,000 items related to regional and cultural history, and the natural sciences. In addition, the Hungerford Nature Center maintains 27 acres of guided woodland and interpretive gardens that support a variety of native and cultivated plant species.
