📣 Attention Non-profits! Friendly reminder, Don’t Lose Your Tax-Exempt Status. Update your Address with the IRS now!

📈 Remote offices and work are a part of our new normal as the dust settles from the pandemic. If an organization you work for or serve has changed its in-office policies or has done away with its office space altogether it’s important to make sure the IRS knows how to contact the organization and its responsible party. IRS regulations require any entity with an EIN to update the Responsible party information, including address changes, within 60 days of any change by filing Form 8822-B. It would be unfortunate if the IRS was sending correspondence to an organization that no longer receives mail at its former address, particularly if the organization was being informed that the IRS had not received its annual 990 filing.

📆 Organizations that do not file for three consecutive years automatically lose their tax-exempt status. An automatic revocation is effective on the original filing due date of the third annual return or notice. If an organization’s tax-exempt status is automatically revoked, it is no longer exempt from federal income tax. An automatically revoked organization is not eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions and will be removed from the cumulative list of tax-exempt organizations, Publication 78. State and local laws may affect an organization that loses its tax-exempt status as well. An automatically revoked organization must apply to have its status reinstated, even if the organization was not originally required to file an application for exemption.

💻 The IRS publishes the list of organizations whose tax-exempt status was automatically revoked because of failure to file a required Form 990, 990-EZ, 990-PF, or Form 990-N (e-Postcard) for three consecutive years. The IRS updates the list monthly.

🌎There are an estimated 476 million Indigenous Peoples in the world living across 90 countries. They make up less than 6% of the world's population, but account for at least 15% of the poorest. They speak an overwhelming majority of the world’s estimated 7,000 languages and represent 5,000 different cultures.🌎

📣In order to raise awareness of the needs of these population groups, every August 9th commemorates the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, chosen in recognition of the first meeting of the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations held in Geneva in 1982.

Our 3 dedicated interns knew where they wanted to take their accounting career and did a deep dive into their perspective departments. Our 4 rotation interns got a broad overview of public accounting by spending 2 weeks in each of our departments, receiving a snapshot of the inner workings of the departments and how we work together for the success of our clients.
