It is a bittersweet day at Hannon Ortho today as our first set of “interns” work their last day today. Maddie and Shannon, both Notre Dame ‘20, have been with us for the past two years, running clinic, planning surgeries, and being Dr. Hannon’s right hand ladies. We will sure miss them but wish them well as they go on to pursue their own careers in medicine and beyond❤️.

Smarter. More efficient. Handheld robotics.
Backed by Smith+Nephew's Real Intelligence, the CORI robotic-assisted system was designed to change the face of orthopedics.
Precision Ambulatory Surgery Center offers a boutique type of mentality that is truly about the patient flow in and out of the center.

"The nice thing about our technique is that patients have very minimal pain afterward. So, most patients when they wake up from surgery are essentially in no pain or very minimal pain because of the anesthesia techniques." – Dr. Michael Hannon
Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Michael Hannon, describes his background and passion for sports medicine and orthopedic knee surgery.
Through his practice, Hannon Orthopedics, he describes what one of his patients should expect when dealing with knee pain and the process to diagnose if they are a good candidate for outpatient total joint replacement surgery.
Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Michael Hannon, describes how to prepare for outpatient knee replacement surgery including pre-operative tests and appointments with the patient’s primary physician.
In addition, Dr. Hannon discusses the importance of having a coach for this type of knee surgery. This is someone who can help the patient get in and out of a vehicle, get around their home, make sure they're safe, help them with the distribution of medicine, help them coordinate nursing and physical therapy.
The surgical coordinator at Hannon Orthopedics also provides a booklet of information on how to prepare for robotic outpatient partial and total knee replacement surgery with the Smith & Nephew CORI Surgical System at the Precision Ambulatory Surgery Center in Beverly Hills, California.
Dr. Hannon explains what the patient should expect on the day of the surgery, including how much time an average procedure takes and how long a patient typically stays in recovery before going home after a partial and total knee replacement surgery with the Smith & Nephew CORI Surgical System.
Reve Brander, Assistant Director of Anesthesia at Precision Ambulatory Surgery Center in Beverly Hills, also talks about an opioid-free anesthesia plan for these procedures that utilize it as regional anesthesia, along with some adjunct medications to make it as smooth as possible for everyone.
Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Michael Hannon, describes the benefits of the Smith & Nephew CORI Robotic Assisted Surgery System he uses for his partial and total knee replacement surgeries.
The CORI Surgical System doesn’t require any preoperative imaging such as an MRI or CAT Scan. The patient's anatomy is mapped at the time of surgery with a stylist, which is essentially like a pen or a pencil. It allows us to create a three-dimensional model of that particular patient's actual knee. And that allows us to precisely put in the new replacement exactly how we want.
It also prevents us from removing bone where we're not supposed to, which provides an added level of safety and security. This hand-piece has these arrays, which is how the robotic system communicates with this hand-piece. And so this allows us to be very precise in surgery.
And by obtaining data with respect to the patient's native ligament tension, that actually allows us to balance their knee robotically on the screen prior to resecting any bone. And this really helps in terms of ensuring that we're going to have an excellent outcome.
Patients typically visit Hannon Orthopedics six weeks after surgery to assess their range of motion. And again, ensure that they're healing well. We'll see them again at the three-month mark after surgery to take a second postoperative x-ray and to assess their progress. And then we also typically see them six months after the surgery. And then at the one-year mark.

The road to recovery varies for each patient. Typically, patients can return to driving in approximately two weeks with full return to work for most patients around six weeks and potential back to golf/light sports eight weeks after surgery.
