JUST IN: Well, here we go again. Now a medium chance of tropical development officially from the folks at the NHC for this next wave we talked about. Expect it to become a high chance as soon as tomorrow folks. A tropical storm or hurricane appears quite likely by early next week. Way too soon to tell final destination. Very different steering setup than Debby was. This will also form way sooner to make it easier to track from longer range.

If you live in or had / have a vaca or trip into the Caribbean, a hurricane very well may impact next week. You especially want to watch this.

If it did impact or strike the U.S. that would be late next week. But again, too soon to pinpoint one state over the other. A trough in the eastern U.S. means a FL impact is unlikely given such steering setup but we will watch. Let’s root for the ‘out to sea’ scenario!

TALKIN' TROPICS: Plenty to watch after a few day break from Debby. Mid to late next week we should have two distinct waves to watch. Euro model ensemble mean shows 40-50% development odds already for both. I for now really think the 1st one has a really good chance to become a named storm. FL/East Coast/Gulf should keep an eye on the 1st wave. Guidance is split on eventual out-to-sea track or something more threatening.

There will be a 3rd wave behind this by August 20th.

GET READY TEXAS- Beryl was a hot mess after crossing the Yucatan, but has come back to life. I expect Beryl to ramp up, and be at its strongest when it makes landfall in Texas Monday AM. Residents in Beryls path should prepare for a strengthening hurricane. All storm preparations should be rushed to completion by tomorrow. The central Texas coast should be ready for hurricane force winds, dangerous storm surge, with flooding rain extending inland next week.

A Heat Advisory will be in effect once again on Tuesday from 11am-7pm for heat indices up to 108-112F. Remember to stay hydrated, take breaks in the shade if you have to be outside, check on the elderly, and bring pets indoors!

This morning will be rather gusty for parts of the area, especially south of the tidal lakes and on the coast near I-12. Winds will be sustained 20-25 with gusts in excess of 35 mph possible from 11 am today through 7 pm. Secure loose objects and take care driving.
The coastal flood advisory/warning also continues for parts of our shoreline, so take care especially in low lying areas or vulnerable streets where there could be flooding. Turn around, don't drown!
We also continue to monitor the tropics with Potential Tropical Cyclone One continuing to move westward towards northeast Mexico. We are continuing to have indirect impacts from this system. Keep an eye on the latest forecasts.

Here's the latest in the tropics: Potential Tropical Cyclone One continues to move towards S TX/Mexico and while we won't have direct impacts, due it being rather broad we'll have some indirect impacts such as coastal flooding, locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds.

Otherwise, this week's forecast is looking to be hot and humid with some showers and storms here and there. There's slightly lower chances around Friday, but otherwise the rainy pattern is expected to continue through early next week at least..

Coastal Flood Advisory Tuesday and Wednesday. A map indicates the advisory is in effect for all open coast lines of southeast LA and MS. Key messages read as follows. Tides will rise above normal Tuesday with the highest water levels occurring during high tide Wednesday. Minor to potentially moderate coastal flooding is expected and a coastal flood warning may be needed for high tide Wednesday. During high tide Wednesday, a few roads could become impassable in the Shoreline Park area around Bay St. Louis, and water could cover some low sections of Hwy 1 between Port Fourchon and Grand Isle.

We continue to monitor the disturbance near the SW Gulf of Mexico. It still has a 70% chance of development in the next 7 days, but it's up to 60% in the next 2 days. Some indirect impacts are forecast for our area, including heavy rain, gusty winds and coastal flooding.
There is a slight risk of excessive rainfall for southeast LA and coastal MS today. Locally heavy rainfall could cause street flooding. Stay weather aware today and don't drive through flooded roadways!
