Juneteenth, short for June Nineteenth, is a profound moment in African American history, marking the end of slavery in the United States. Before this day in 1865, some African Americans were still enslaved. Today, we honor the strength and resilience of African Americans who have persevered despite facing immense obstacles. Their unwavering spirit and determination continue to inspire us. We also remember those who were enslaved and did not live to see this day, recognizing their sacrifices and the enduring legacy of their struggle for freedom.

At Pathways, we believe in creating an inclusive and safe space for all women and children experiencing homelessness. We are proud to support and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community this month and every month.

Our team at Pathways is committed to providing compassionate care and support to everyone who walks through our doors. We have partnered with Magic City Acceptance Center to ensure our staff receives LGBTQ+ cultural humility training, enhancing our ability to serve all clients respectfully and understanding. Also, we refer clients to their services to ensure they have comprehensive support.

We also have a Rainbow Room in our Stepping Stones Program dedicated to members of the LGBTQ+ community who prefer that space.

Thank You, Birmingham Sunrise Rotary Club! With their hard work, our Safe Haven bedrooms are now beautifully painted and furnished with new beds, providing a calm and safe place for our ladies. During the renovations, they provided a hotel room for our guests to have a mini vacation. Our clothing boutique is also beautifully organized now and ready for the summer heat!

One of our favorite traditions at Pathways is weekly bingo, in which our ladies can enjoy bonding time with one another and as well as win special prizes that allow them to practice self-care. For Bingo, we are intentional in awarding prizes that aren’t just the basic essentials that are regularly provided to our clients like shampoo and conditioner. For bingo, we provide items such as makeup, perfume, journals, bags, lotions, and gift cards.

It’s Financial Literacy Awareness Month, but we acknowledge the importance of financial literacy all year long at Pathways!
