Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry
We are an all volunteer ministry of faith-based organizations in Blacksburg, VA. We are supported by local individuals, organizations, and clubs. (NRCA).
The Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry (BIFP) was founded on October 15, 1987 to serve families of Blacksburg and McCoy. The BIFP is run entirely by volunteers. There are no paid staff members. All client needs are met through cash and food donations. At its inception, the BIFP was open only one day a week and served 19 families in its first month. Thank you to the quilters and sewers that have been making sturdy cloth bags for the Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry. This is a joint project of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church and The Quilting Party, Blacksburg’s quilt guild. The bags are made from fabric donated by three households. At least 60 totes have been made so far, and the project will continue into 2024.
Thank you to Blacksburg Presbyterian Church Mission Concert. The concert raised $1,031 in donations for the food pantry.

The Food Pantry is continuing its summer food program for children by offering additional food during the December school break. We will pack these bags the first week of December and distribute in the middle of the month. We still need additional food items highlighted in yellow. Gifts cards to help with the purchase of additional food items are also appreciated.
The Pantry will be closed on Thursday, November 23rd for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

If your family observes Advent, here is project to consider. Each day, during Advent, add a food item to a box. Bring the box to the Food Pantry after Christmas. This donated box of food will continue to feed families into the new year.

Thanksgiving is around the corner and the Food Pantry could use your support in filling our freezers with turkeys! Kroger is having a .99 cent per pound sale on turkeys (limit 2 per customer). Please consider purchasing a small turkey for the food pantry (10 to 14 lbs.). Donations can be dropped off at the pantry between 3:45 pm and 5:30 pm Monday and Tuesday and 9:45 am to 11:30 am Wednesday and Thursday. Our address is 706 Harding Avenue. No need to get out of your car. We will come to you! Thank you for your generosity and helping us meet the needs of the 375 families that we serve.

On Sunday, volunteers from Virginia Tech's CRU organization helped to pack the holiday bags which will be given to customers beginning November 1st.

The VT Sensory Evaluation Lab (SEL) is researching the individual’s ability of home meal preparation (IRB #23-861). We are recruiting volunteers who are 18 years or older who are interested in sharing their personal experience in home meal preparation to participate. Subjects will be required to participate in a total of three, 60 to 120 minutes sessions over 2-4 weeks in which they are going to discuss everything, good or bad, that affects their abilities of cooking at home.
Audio recordings and photos of the sessions will be taken, with permission. Your decision to participate or not will not impact your relationship with Virginia Tech or VT SEL. Participants will get up to $90 cash awards by completing all three concept mapping sessions.
