Congratulations to the 55 K-12 Minnesota music educators who were selected for the Music Educator Side-By-Side rehearsal and performance project with Music Director Thomas Søndergård and the Minnesota Orchestra. 🎉 🎶

These educators will work with Søndergård in rehearsals and performances at Orchestra Hall, where they will play alongside Minnesota Orchestra musicians. This project reflects Søndergård’s priority to highlight the importance of music education and to celebrate the contributions of music educators.

Minnesota All State auditions are open now!

Opus is open NOW for the 2024 All-State Auditions! Folks can start uploading auditions at any time. New this year- you can upload auditions BEFORE you pay! The Audition deadline is at NOON (12PM) on February 27th, 2024. We recommend that folks finish uploads no later than the evening of February 26th, so that staff can be available during the regular workday on February 27th to support if needed. 2024-2025 Audition Material and a link to the Opus Portal is available on the MMEA Auditions webpage, in addition to a few new resources including a visual timeline and a student/teacher checklist for recording audition videos. Busy night in School Services at Schmitt Music. 7 beginner music maker displays, Honoring Dist 11 for their NAMM Best Communities for Music Education and Celebrating Nora Tycast as 2023 Schmitt Music Educator of the Year at her year end concert.

Doug Schmitt, with the help of Megan Palmer, surprised Sarah Frieseke with the 2023 ASBDA Young Conductor Award. The award was delivered at her Scott Highlands Middle School band concert on Thursday evening. Congratulations, Sarah!

Schmitt Music presented our 2023 Educator of the year award to Eric Songer in front of his middle school students and parents at their final concerts. He received 3 standing ovations! Eric is known for his creative warm up routines, garage bands, mariachi curriculum, jazz bands and amazing arrangements to showcase the unique talents of his students. He is also being recognized by the Country Music Award Foundation as a 2023 Teacher of Excellence. Congratulations! !

Hudson WI School District is receiving their 13th NAMM Best Communities for Music Award. Congratulations!

Park Rapids beginner musician recruiting night with Keith Wander, Education Sales Rep. That night when Mary gets to sign her grandson up to play saxophone in the band. How cool is that!?

Steve Olsen, retired band director from Rosemount HS, dropped by for a few repairs and a tour of the new Schmitt Music Bloomington store! He even played the Harry James trumpet and mouthpieces.

MBDA Honor band was excellent. Chanhassen HS was the host. Standing room only. Music was donated by Schmitt Music and raffled off to the directors that were present with their students.

The Bloomington Symphony Orchestra - Minnesota is celebrating their 60th anniversary! They are hosting a benefit recital and silent auction at Schmitt Music Bloomington this Sunday April 30 from 3-5pm.
