We work to improve public awareness of our elders through dialogue, programming, celebration and exploration and also to promote solutions to problems for our senior citizens.
The Commission on Aging extends our condolences to Kerry’s family and many friends. We thank her for her many years of advocacy and leadership.
Yesterday we were sad to learn that Kerry Conway died Sunday, April 7th. Kerry served as Area 10’s Executive Director for eight years until her retirement at the end of 2017. Though she cared deeply about the work of Area 10, she was ready to join her lifelong partner and husband Norvin in retirement, where they could fill their days with whatever suited their fancy. In her time, she advocated for elder abuse and initiated an adult guardianship program in Monroe and Owen counties. She was particularly drawn to health care policy and enjoyed taking the message and needs for seniors to local, state, and federal elected officials. If you were enjoying programming in our Endwright Center or visiting Area 10, you almost always saw Kerry around with her coffee mug in hand, ready to connect. Her mind was always busy and involved with the world around her, and she exhibited her complex creative side through her knit creations and infamous doodles.
It seems appropriate that her life would transition at a time when soil is warming and life, especially flowers, is returning color to our world. Kerry loved and nurtured flowers. We send positive energy and much peace to her spirit, her husband and daughter, four-legged friends, and extended friends and family.
