The decision-making processes that determine the location of clean-energy facilities can play a critical role in the success of such projects. A team of researchers, including a group from the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University, has been awarded a $2.5 million grant from the Department of Energy to evaluate how these processes, called siting practices, shape community support for large-scale solar projects and how those dynamics differ across communities.

This year, a recent IU graduate got the chance to help strengthen cybersecurity in her rural hometown of Jasper, Indiana. As part of the IU Center for Rural Engagement's Sustaining Hoosier Communities initiative, Izzy Blazey and a team of fellow IU students worked closely with officials to help Jasper hone its approach to choosing an emergency alert system that will meet its citizens’ need for immediate critical information while also protecting local security infrastructure.

Indiana University and a new medical school in Kenya partnered nearly 35 years ago to create a visionary global health collaboration model.

The results of that Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare, or Ampath Kenya, partnership includes the creation of one of Africa’s first, largest, and most comprehensive HIV care and control programs supported by the United States Agency for International Development; sub-Saharan Africa’s first transitional home for people with mental health challenges; and Kenya’s first medical fellowships in pediatric oncology and maternal-fetal medicine. This year, the Tellys received over 12,000 entries from all 50 states and six continents.
