Madness..that's a good word to describe our world lately.

Finding respite in this storm is more important than ever, even if only for a short time. I find peace in meditation groups, receiving bodywork, one on one training and just moments in silence in nature.

The lymphatic system is located within the fascia.

Your fascia is a sticky web that goes through and around every cell in your body. It holds on to trauma, memories and pain as issues in your tissues and helps give every part of you it's shape.

Any repetitive stress injuries, every trauma, scar and incision, every surgery (no matter how minor) disrupts your fascia and also your lymph system.

Just because you know what the pathways are supposed to look like and which direction they're supposed to flow in, doesn't mean that they actually do.

Learning how to tap certain areas in your body to improve flow is helpful and it won't hurt to learn and to do, but it will not address the obstructions that your body forms over a lifetime.

It takes years and thousands of bodies before a therapist can learn how to feel these obstructions and understand how to re-direct them to restore proper flow.

Do compression sleeves make lymphatic drainage unnecessary? The short answer is NO, the longer explanation is below.

Compression sleeves are being used by many different athletic and therapy centers and do provide a quick way to reduce soreness and increase circulation. They also push lymph fluid upward and through the lymph vessels.

However, what they don't account for is any restriction or obstruction in the abdominal area. Restrictions from old scars like C-Sections, tummy tucks, liposuction, hernia repairs or gall bladder removals.

These old scars, even when faded on the surface cause a larger internal disruption to the fascia and thereby the lymph system. When these obstructions are not addressed, the compression sleeves WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ADEQUATELY MOVE FLUID OUT OF THE LEGS.

The exit points need to be open in the upper part of the body so that the fluid can drain appropriately.

Know your anatomy.

Our mind is the builder, our hearts help guide us and navigate, but our body is our temple. We only get one and as resilient as it is, it needs our care.

I see it all the time, my fingers feel it every day.

In the dark, without a word, I can find scar tissue in every body.

Those areas are clearly defined, sometimes slightly raised, always stronger than the rest.

This is how we heal, how our bodies find a way forward after an injury.

The magic is in letting it become a part of you that gives you strength and not hinder you in moving forward.

Taking an hour or two for yourself to decompress, to let someone else worry about you for a change can do so much for your body, mind and soul.

Sometimes, we just need the space and time to let go if only for a while. Just like a cat-nap, that small investment can refresh, rejuvenate and improve your perspective.

A lovely young lady, who is also my client brought this to my attention not too long ago. I was touched by her concern and observation and also a little embarrassed that I had forgotten this.

Being a caregiver, a service provider and volunteer in a pet rescue center, it is easy to see that my priorities are somewhat lopsided. 😄

I'm lucky to have wonderful clients who help me see myself more clearly and now I'm passing this wisdom forward.

We have a lot of influence over how we age.

We may all have genetic predispositions, but how those predispositions present varies even among identical twins who have been together their whole lives.

How we respond to the world around us, physically, psychologically and emotionally plays a huge role in our outcome. Do what you can to give yourself the best outcome possible.

Have you ever experienced analysis paralysis?

Not just for a few minutes or hours but for months on end? It can happen when about to embark in unchartered territory, a whole new career or way of life. I never really thought about it much until recently when I found myself paralyzed from moving forward by my own hidden fears and ever present anxiety.

It is laughable how easily I was able to move my whole life from the east coast to the west coast and back again. Both times, less than a month from the decision to the action being completed and yet when it came to a new goal or career direction, I faced the biggest wall 😩I had ever encountered.

Today as I write this (it will post in the future), it is the first time that I'm admitting to this condition and writing about it.

Admitting it is the first step to changing it. 😌

Many years ago I had two lovely clients from the far east. They told me that in their culture doctors or healers see people when they are healthy in order to keep them healthy. If the person became ill, then the healer had failed.

Here in the West, we mostly see medicine as treatments for disease. Wouldn't it be wonderful if instead we found ways of staying healthy? That would give the term "Health Savings Account" a whole new meaning.

Maintaining balance within our bodies, mind and spirit we give ourselves a better chance to stay healthy longer. Just a thought. 🤔❤️

Solid Bloat is composed of layers of accumulated stagnant lymph, blood and debris.

It becomes solid because the stagnant lymph creates an inflammatory environment which dehydrates the tissues.

This becomes the storage site for accumulated toxins, chemical debris, medications, anesthesia, smoke, inhaled contaminants and cellular wastes.

All of this stored waste will aggravate the immune system, and liver, leading to more inflammation

With vacuum cupping, we can bring more fluid into these stagnant areas. By liquifying the bloat your body is now able to gradually clear it and detoxify.

I sometimes get clients who want to look good for a specific occasion, an event of some kind in the near future. At Florida Lymph Drainage, I don't really approach my bodywork with these short term goals in mind. I'm more of a marathoner in this sense.

One reason is that lowering inflammation naturally takes time, otherwise you'd turn to pharmaceuticals. It definitely will take more than one session. Changing the appearance of your body will also take more than just lymphatic drainage. It will require body contouring bodywork at the office and at home, dietary and lifestyle modifications as well.

Occasionally I get calls from post-operative patients wanting to receive lymphatic drainage immediately after their surgery.

My policy is always to wait until all the incision sites are closed before beginning treatment. This is for their own safety in order to prevent infection and because legally, massage therapists should not be squeezing fluid out of incision sites.
