DG Turf Farm
Growing you greener lawns for more than 50 years.
With this sudden cool-down, now is a great time to get your new lawn established.
Not a bad way to start the week.
Mastering the shuttle….
Rolling into the weekend…
Golden hour hits a little different when the triple digits are here for the long haul. Mornings are always the most beautiful, but especially in July and August.
We are cutting full time, weather permitting, and this week is looking good! Who’s ready for Spring?
We could not have asked for a more beautiful Easter. He is risen and Spring has sprung.
Tis the season…
Like always, each roll of sod is cut to order, but with these freezing conditions, our window for cutting is a little later in the day. If we plan it right, we can store orders for the next day.
Opening up my favorite field called for a new harvest video.

Happy Summer Solstice, from the best little shotgun rider.
Today, the official count begins. We fired up the pump and watered our lawn for the first time this year. June 18th is by far, a new record. How many times do you think we’ll water this year?
That’s a wrap on a jam-packed short week. It’s looking like rain again this weekend, and we aren’t complaining. We will gladly take every inch we can get, as we head into June.
A trip to Boulder Point is always a good way to start the day. Responsible green spaces and native plants are a good addition to your firebreak plan.

Whether you are ordering an entirely new lawn, or a small bag of seed, we offer delivery, right to your doorstep.
You can easily call-in, text, or email orders at your convenience, then securely pay your invoice, right from your own device. You don’t even have to be present to receive your delivery, and can rest assured it made it, through our proof of delivery attached to each work order.
In high demand, I currently have 2 of these 10 # bags of seed available. We won’t have any more of this size until next fall, but do have plenty of 50 # bags if you’re looking to seed or over-seed your entire lawn.
This is your reminder to keep adequate water on your new lawn, especially in the first couple of weeks. With the temperatures raising and dry winds, you don’t want to let those seams dry out.
We have detailed instructions on our website, but I always welcome your calls or texts if you have questions on proper care.
I might have wanted to keep this sweet girl. Miss Ellie came out to the farm today for some RTF sod for her backyard. She is a therapy dog in training and the RTF was a perfect choice.
RTF stands for Rhizomatous Tall Fescue and its patented seed produces a self repairing, low maintenance lawn, perfect for high traffic kids and pets!
Once it’s established, RTF requires significantly less water than other varieties, isn’t susceptible to bill bug damage (Ellie won’t be exposed to needless insecticides), and its deep rooting system will require far less fertilizer than bluegrass.
Today’s the day, Idaho!
A lot of people think they can’t vote in Idaho if they haven’t previously registered with a party. If you are unaffiliated, you can choose at the polling site. Find your current polling place through your county website.
Happy Easter!

I was just scrolling through some more photos from our Fair Week at the and came across this photo!
The massive rainstorm, which was originally supposed to hit at 3 pm, held out until well after left the stage.
we have our eye on you! The countdown begins now.
Closing out a crazy, hot month, we opened up a new field of bluegrass today and have our eye on a cooler August.
Who’s ready to turn the page on July 2021?
Fair Week is officially underway at and I came across this photo from closing night, two years ago. We had just packed everything up and were waiting to have our chickens released.
Everyone was hot and tired, but this little guy was the biggest trooper, thanks to It will always be such a fun memory and one of my favorite photos.
Come out this weekend to support the local and kids, check out the exhibits, ride some rides, grab some food, and catch a concert (the line-up is 🙌)
We’ll be there every day!
Just over 8 years ago, we harvested our first pallets of Water Saver
I always know the year, because Betty was just over a year old and spent her days with me in that little office.
So many things have changed; the kids have all grown, and we work completely mobily, allowing me to dispatch from the field, home, or even county fair.
We kicked off fair week today and this little girl came home with some big ribbons.
🏆🏆🏆🏆
Here we are, 19 days in, with temperatures close to or exceeding triple digits and we’ve only watered our RTF sod at home 4 times this year.
The entire west is concerned right now and I’m seeing a lot of bad advice online regarding watering times and duration.
If your lawn is established, aim for deep, infrequent waterings and early morning for the optimal time. Your soil, along with sprinkler type and water pressure, is largely going to determine how or when you will water.
Rather than setting an irrigation timer and forgetting it, try to double your irrigation time one day and triple the days in between watering. Watch to see how your lawn responds and don’t be afraid to let it wilt a little.
Before a healthy, well established lawn ever dries up or turns brown, the green will start to fade, with a grey undertone. That is your cue to water again, and water deeply.
Most of our valley is a decent sandy loam with good drainage, if not the best organic matter or fertility. This is optimal for establishing deep roots and a healthy, responsible lawn.
If you notice puddling, you definitely have clay, compaction, or a drainage issue, which needs to be addressed. We firmly believe healthy lawns start with healthy soil, the best seed, and responsible practices.
Steadily, we’re still harvesting through this heat.
Bluegrass naturally wants to go dormant in extreme heat cycles and its roots will often recede, making the tensile strength less than optimal.
We always try to have a field of well established sod, ready to cut, just for these moments.
Every roll is cut to order, and first thing in the morning, so it’s important to get your orders in at least 24 hours in advance.

Happy Birthday, Idaho!
Idaho became the 43rd state on July 3, 1890, after being recognized as a territory for 30 years.
Two pieces of trivia: our State Capitol, The People’s House, was modeled after the Nation’s Capitol in Washing DC, and our state flag has the only state seal to be designed by a woman.
💙🤍🖤🤍💙
What’s your favorite duo?
PB&J, surf and turf, blue and orange, Beth and Rip?
Our kids are pretty partial to Lucy and Ethel, but I’ll take RTF and Magnum Big Rolls, every, single day.

With the sun sitting high and much of the west in the middle of a heat wave, we are starting earlier and limiting deliveries this week and next.
We are still at it though, delivering the same quality product and providing the same excellent service you always expect from DG Turf Farm. Get your orders in early and I’ll do my best to help you beat the heat.
Last night these three officially wrapped up their 2021 baseball and softball seasons.
Cleats, bats, helmets, and balls have all made their way to the garage, rather than their home for the past 2 months in the back of my car. Lawn chairs, water jugs, and all the seeds have been cleaned out and now we focus on getting ready for Fair Week!
I have to say, of any club, league, or sport, this season with has been the best experience. The kids all developed incredible skills, the parents were hands on, the coaches all went above and beyond, but mostly, the sportsmanship was the best I’ve seen.
