Mountain Mama Radio Hour
Wednesdays @ 6:00 PM
Enjoy an hour of bluegrass, old time and classic country with your Mountain Mama, Lauren Wasmund!
90.5 WASU FM or on wasuradio.com
I can’t share music through the radio waves this week, but here’s some of my own singing! Stay healthy, friends.
Bentley and I are holding out this isolation period with my family!
GOOD NEWS: I was awarded as a finalist for the IBS 2020 Awards for the Most Innovative and Creative show! Yay!
SAD NEWS: Along with everything else, Mountain Mama is indefinitely canceled (possibly forever on 90.5 WASU). Although I currently don’t own recording equipment and can’t afford it to record things from home yet, this account will still be active and I’ll still be posting Spotify playlists. Who knows where the show go after I graduate in May... maybe a podcast? Support your artists, if you can! We are all out of work, but we’re gonna make it through this.
It is unclear when we will be back on the air as Appalachian State is part of the UNC School System, which is transitioning to online classes until further notice.
As for now, I’ll be posting weekly playlists on Spotify.
We are back on tonight! See y'all in 20 minutes on 90.5 WASU! www.wasuradio.com
Mountain Mama will be taking a break this week (Feb. 26) as I observe Ash Wednesday! See y’all next week.
Tonight's show is a special one! I've been wanting to play an entire album on the show, so tonight we are taking it back to Sarah Jarosz's 2011 release 'Follow Me Down.'
This album features Darrell Scott, Bela Fleck, Vince Gill and other superstar musicians, but it's Jarosz that truly brings this music to an entirely new level.
6 p.m. ET on 90.5 WASU or www.wasuradio.com.
Appalachian State University's Old Time Fiddler's Convention is this weekend! See you there.
Check out my interview with Ben Krakauer. The interview starts at 3:25 after featuring the title track of the album 'Heart Lake.'

This week on Mountain Mama we will feature Ben Krakauer, banjo player, composer and ethnomusicologist. His 2019 debut solo album, Heart Lake, includes twelve original tunes with playful, interactive, and distinctive textures, and features outstanding instrumental work by:
Ben Krakauer, banjo
Duncan Wickel, fiddle and cello
Nick Falk, drums
Dan Klingsberg, bass
Tune in on Wednesday at 6 p.m. as we talk to Ben about this new release!
Tonight's show is ALL over the place, and I love it! We might even be throwing it back to some Rascal Flatts, since they just announced farewell tour. If that's not your cup of tea, there is still plenty more you might enjoy!
See you at 6 p.m. on www.wasuradio.com!
New Mile Twelve single is out today! Check it out on Spotify here. https://open.spotify.com/track/56e7cqWCYGkQYsYud3demx?si=pMeswnJuQKSQr2ogE3pcsQ

EXCITING NEWS! Mountain Mama was nominated for the Most Innovative/Creative Program award at the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System’s 2020 awards in NYC! It is such an honor to be recognized among other hardworking university stations. 90.5 WASU Radio has given me a wonderful outlet for Appalachian music to be heard! We are back on Wednesday at 6 p.m., see y’all then. - Photo: Kiera Massi
This was waiting for me when I arrived in the Netherlands! So proud of and this amazing album! Give it a listen.
Food is an important part of sharing traditions. When friends visit me, I love to share recipes from my Grandma and mom of special southern food like livermush biscuits and blackberry wine cake. Tonight, I shared the Dutch tradition of eating Boerenkool Stamppot, which is a mixture of potatoes and a kale-like cabbage with sausage. It’s yummy, but let’s just say it needed some gravy 😉
Happy New Year from the Netherlands!
Thanks NPR Music for including me in your end of year best of list! I’m honored 🙏🏻
WE ARE LIVE!
Tonight's show is all about gospel music! It will be the last show until January 14th.
Tune in at 6 p.m. ET on www.wasuradio.com or 90.5 WASU FM.

New release from Cameron Scoggins, and I’m totally digging it. My favorite tracks so far are “Silicon” And “Palo Alto.”
Cameron said on his Instagram, “The record is about how technology makes us more or less human, and what ‘Folk’ can say about it. Or rather, taking modern mythology and saying... folk this.”
Cameron is an actor and musician, and you may recognize him from ABC's Nasvhille and/or NBC's Shades of Blue.
This record rocks!
Wednesday is GOSPEL HOUR on Mountain Mama! What do you want to hear? Comment below.
SiriusXM Bluegrass Junction may not be playing bluegrass tonight, but Mountain Mama Radio Hour sure is! A place where you can hear bluegrass AND Dolly Parton!
Listen in tonight at 6 p.m.
Last night’s show! Featuring music from Cup O'Joe, Jobi Riccio, and more!
Mountain Mama Radio Hour #10, a playlist by laurenwasmund on Spotify A playlist featuring Dolly Parton, Molly & Jack Tuttle, Ronnie Bowman, and others
I’m only on episode 1, but this isn’t just about Dolly Parton. It dips into songwriting and a lot about Appalachia. It’s cool to listen from the perspective of an Appalachian musician. I’d recommend it to anyone! Great way to learn.
Cup O'Joe's new single comes out FRIDAY!
It's that time of year when you're ready to find someone for the holidays! Tonight's show is all about love and loss. Listen in at 6 p.m.
Congratulations to this beautiful couple! Who doesn't love a bluegrass wedding?
