Hello all, thank you for all of your messages. Some of our customers have asked if we will be reopening. We will not be reopening. Billy Scantlebury was the last of Scantlebury bakers. Thank you for your support and we hope you will continue to post your Betty Ann's memories on this page from time to time.

The Remembrance Project: Bill Scantlebury Six mornings a week, at 5 am, Bill Scantlebury walked downstairs from the third floor of the family's East Boston house, and started to mix doughnut batter for the family's bakery on the first floor. It was a neighborhood fixture, since 1931.

It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of Billy Scantlebury, owner of Betty Ann Food Shop. Billy was a friend to many and taught those who knew him best about the important and simple things in life. He fought a courageous battle and up until the very end thought about reopening the bakery and serving donuts to the community he loved so much. Heaven gained an angel today and one of the best bakers in the world.

The bakery was saddened to hear of the loss of Mayor Tom Menino. He was a regular customer and friend. May he rest in peace.
